Cristiano RonaldoCristiano Ronaldo has never made his desire to one day return to Old Trafford a secret. In fact, he’s been quite forthcoming with this information, whenever he’s placed in front of the media.

Not too long ago, the Real Madrid maestro told the press:

“I love Manchester. Everyone knows that — I have said it many times. Manchester is in my heart. I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.” (Source: The Mirror)

Naturally enough, this spurred a good deal of excitement among Manchester United fans. It must provide some genuine pleasure to have formed a connection with one of the world’s best players – a connection that could see him make a dramatic return back to the club one day.

Given his recent comments, it was only natural that the papers would jump in with their usual round of rumours linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a move away from The Bernabeu.

Right on cue, The Metro ran a story suggesting that Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is ‘already working’ on a deal that will see his charge move back to Manchester United. The source also suggests that £55m could be enough to seal the deal.

Naturally enough, there are a few warning bells with this one. Are we really supposed to believe that Ronaldo has told his agent to engineer a move away so soon into the new season? The transfer window has scarcely been shut for a week. It’s a little bizarre really.

Also bizarre, is the paper’s claim that Ronaldo could be available for as little as £55m. That’s right, £4.7m less than Manchester United spent on Angel Di Maria. I appreciate that Ronaldo’s now 29-years-old (and will probably be 30 by the time a deal gets sealed), but the rumoured price-tag is much too low.

Still, it’s hard not to get excited at the prospect of the Portuguese talent returning to Old Trafford one of these days. If anybody could get Manchester United back on track, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

What’s your take? What does the future hold for Cristiano Ronaldo? Could he one day return back to Old Trafford?
