Luis Suarez’s Liverpool exit was always going to create issues for Brendan Rodgers. Is it really any wonder that The Reds provide less attacking threat this year?
Mario Balotelli has some pretty big boots to step into. As of yet, he’s struggled to make his mark. He’a a good striker, but it’s not clear that he’s got the goal-scoring nous to elevate this Liverpool side. As a result, The Reds tend to struggle when they can’t call upon Daniel Sturridge.
I think this is one area of the squad that Brendan Rodgers needs to look at in the January transfer window. If The Reds are to take their pursuit of silverware up a gear, this strikes me as the next logical step.
This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool are still ‘keen’ on Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema. If this is true it should come as exciting news to the Anfield faithful.
Karim Benzema is a top quality striker on every level. You don’t spend 5 full seasons at The Bernabeu without having something special about your game. What’s more, his goal-scoring record speaks for itself. In 242 games for the Spanish powerhouse he has scored 113 goals. Last season he scored 24 goals in 52 games. He remains in excellent form.
At 26-years-old, he’s now smack-bang in the middle of the best years of his career. Now’s the perfect time to move in for him.
Benzema’s contract with Real Madrid lasts until 2019, so he won’t come cheap. Carlo Ancelotti and co. can afford to call the shots here. But The Metro claims that Benzema is ‘unsettled’ at The Bernabeu, so perhaps Brendan Rodgers could use this to his advantage. With the arrival of Javier Hernandez on loan, Benzema’s game-time could be limited, so this deal isn’t entirely impossible.
He’d be a significant step-up on Mario Balotelli and he’d give Daniel Sturridge a run for his money. If The Reds could pull off this deal, then perhaps they’d finally be in a position to forget about Luis Suarez.
