Alex Song (Cameroon)It’s been one of the summer’s most drawn out transfer sagas, but The Red Devils now finally seem to be making some progress in their pursuit of Arturo Vidal.

The Juventus midfielder, who excels in both defense and attack looks like an excellent option. At 27-years-old, he’s now at the peak of his game. He strikes me as the kind of player that could help put Manchester United back on the right path.

Fans will certainly want to see this deal go through.

As it happens, The Metro recently published an article claiming that Manchester United have already opened negotiations with Juve, over a £45m deal. The source also claims that the Serie A side have demanded that The Red Devils wrap this one up within a week.

If Louis Van Gaal can’t get a deal in place before the timer runs out, he could well be left disappointed. This would be bad news for United on two fronts. Firstly, they’d miss out on Vidal, who we’ve already established is an excellent option. Secondly, they’d be forced to turn to other, lesser, options in the summer transfer market.

The same Metro article linked above suggests that if United miss out on Arturo Vidal, they’ll turn their attention to Barcelona’s misfit midfielder, Alex Song. Wait, what?

This must be a joke, right? That’s like hearing that your friend is in the market for either a Ferrari or a Fiat Panda. It just doesn’t make a jot of sense.

Since moving to Barcelona two summers ago, Song has made 65 appearances, many of which were as a substitute. In his last two seasons for Arsenal, he made 88 appearances. At 26-years-old, he should be at the peak of his game. Unfortunately he appears to be on the decline.

He may be cheaper than Arturo Vidal, but you have to pay for quality. If The Red Devils want to come back stronger next season, they’ll need to make the right decisions in the transfer market. Let’s just hope that Louis Van Gaal is up to the task. Let’s hope he picks Arturo Vidal over Alex Song.

What’s your take? Who should Manchester United sign this summer?

I’d prefer song coz i’ve seen wt he’s done during his time at arsenal. Barca were not after song as a good player but to break down arsenals power as we see today arsenal still crave in that position since he left. Splash too much get dissappointed, little for no pain. Am goin wz Alex Song

The obvious choice is Vidal. He would fit the Keane shaped hole which has been in our team for 10 years now.
That being said, i think that you’d get your money’s worth from Song. That’s if he cares. He might just be washed up; spending too much time on the sandy beaches in Spain. If he is motivated to play well and excel, he would be a good stop gap before filling the spot more permanently next year.

My other hesitation in signing him would be his questionable sending off during the world cup vs Croatia. Hopefully after investigation he will not be found to be one ‘of seven bad apples’ in their national team.
