Manchester United in the running for £20m talent: time to get excited?

ReusThe season has only just begun, but Manchester United fans are already irate. Rightly so. Their club hasn’t strengthened nearly as much as they should have. It’s not like there weren’t enough warning signs last season. It looks like an oversight on a grand scale to have only brought in Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera when the season kicked off (they’ve since brought in Marcos Rojo, but you get my point!).

Swansea City’s 2-1 victory over The Red Devils left Louis Van Gaal and co. with a healthy amount of egg on their face. Now they need to quickly regain their confidence and get back to winning ways.

The only problem with this is a lack of quality within this Manchester United side. My worry is that The Red Devils are set for another transitional season.

Frustratingly, Manchester United have been strongly linked to at least one major world-class talent. The trouble is that the man is question is Marco Reus, who won’t really become available until next summer.

The German ace has a release clause written into his Borussia Dortmund contract that will activate next summer. Given that he’s turned down offers of a new contract, it looks like he’ll be available for around £20m in about a year’s time. When this happens, he’s sure to have plenty of suitors. You wouldn’t blame Manchester United for joining the queue. (Source: The Metro)

German legend Franz Beckenbauer can certainly see Reus in a Manchester United shirt. Check out these quotes that come courtesy of the aforementioned source:

“I can imagine him at Bayern very well. If you can get a player of his class, you need to try it. I am sure: if he doesn’t go to Bayern in 2015, he will probably go to another big international club such as Real Madrid or Manchester United.”

Marco Reus has enough potential to match the achievements of Franz Beckenbauer. He’s that good. Manchester United would be foolish to miss out. It’s just a shame that The Red Devils are unable to snap him up this summer.

What’s your take? Where does Marco Reus’s future lie?
