Juan QuinteroHaving already signed Alexis Sanchez and turned down Cesc Fabregas, it looked like The Gunners had finished with their pursuit of attacking talent this summer. If recent rumours are true, that’s no longer the case.

Whilst The Gunners seem to need a defensive midfield option more than anything else, it would surprise very few if Wenger were to snap up another attacking-minded ace. That kind of player seems to be The Professor’s bread and butter.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal have already agreed a £15.8m fee with FC Porto for their crafty playmaker, Juan Fernando Quintero. They carry quotes from a ‘respected’ journalist, Diego Rueda, who claims that the player has trained for the final time with Porto and that he will soon fly out to London to complete the transfer.

If this is true, it’s very exciting news indeed. The 21-year-old is considered to be one of the most promising young talents in Europe. He’s got six caps for the Colombia international side, having broken into the team when he was just 19-years-old.

At the 2013 South American Youth Championships he led Colombia to their 3rd title, whilst being voted the tournament’s MVP. That’s a good sign, isn’t it?

Since moving to Porto last summer he’s made 34 appearances and found the back of the net 4 times. This is a good return for a young player, who often finds other ways to contribute. He’s quick, skillful and he’s got an eye for a pass. That makes him extremely effective in the final third.

With Arsene Wenger known for his interest in young talent, it’s not all that surprising to see that Arsenal are interested in Quintero. The Calum Chambers deal provides evidence that The Gunners are on the hunt for youthful options. This Colombian sensation could well be the next one through the door.

What’s your take? Do Arsenal really need to sign another forward? Would Juan Fernando Quintero be a good long-term option?
