In the opening games of their season, The Gunners have demonstrated a startling lack of cohesion. Whilst their pre-season campaign went pretty smoothly, as soon as they’ve launched into competitive action they’ve looked disjointed, uncertain and unfit.
Alexis Sanchez has had a couple of games to make his mark and he’s been a bit disappointing. He’s had a few occasions to turn the after-burners on and beat his man, but generally he’s played with his back to goal and has struggled to make much of an impact.
When he’s fully fit and has adapted to his new situation, I’m sure things will be different. But his current form and the form of this Arsenal team as a whole is a little worrying. Games against Crystal Palace and Besiktas shouldn’t be so challenging. Much bigger obstacles lie ahead. Arsenal need to make sure that they’re ready.
Interestingly enough, Arsene Wenger keeps getting linked to further attacking talent. Take, for instance, The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal have been given the ‘green light’ to snap up Shakhtar Donestk star Douglas Costa.
The source carries quotes from Costa’s manager, Mircea Lucescu:
“I am sure that things will come to the fore in the next few weeks. For me, all the players are transferable for the right price. Every year, some players go and some players arrive. It’s normal that players will want to leave at some point.”
Looks like he’s willing to sell if the price is right. The Metro suggest that this price might be £40m. That’s a huge amount of cash. If Arsene Wenger is really considering this deal, it’s evidence that he rates the Brazilian very highly indeed.
Costa is pacey, smart and he’s got great technical ability. He’s the kind of player who can make things happen from an attacking point of view, even when the opposition team is parking the bus.
I’d say that it’s about time that he had a shot at a big club. Let’s just hope that Arsenal are willing to offer him this and that Wenger is able to negotiate with Shakhtar Donetsk for a more Arsenal-friendly deal.
What’s your take? Do The Gunners really need Douglas Costa?

Would be a stupid buy. We need
1) A CB Maybe Kostas Manolas or Fabian Schar
2) A DM Maybe a sitting DM such as William Carvalho or a box to box DM like Sami Khedira
3) A CF Such as Cavani, Falcao or Bony or Benteke
Douglas Costa is a super player but we have just bought Alexis. If we do sell Podolski, then he could be a buy, but I think a Centre Forward is more urgent, as we have Sanchez, Walcott, The Ox and Gnabry out wide and Santi Cazorla can play out wide too.
I cannot see Wenger spending 30-40 million on Douglas Costa as he is not worth that money, better to spend 50mill on Cavani.
Wenger is not been reasonable in time like this because they gave him free hand to run a club let him buy a stricker and defensive midflder
I think that too much,we need a defensive midfield for sure.William orTiote is ok.We need playes like khedira or falcao to strengthen our team. The performance so far is not good as we have tough games ahead.
Wenger should buy one dfm and a striker like Cavan or falcao at list one top striking power that will give us more goals if u look Liverpool sturrage and squares, arsenal need canbine force like that.
we need calvaho, manolas and any good striker but I don’t see striker coming. so calvaho is needed asap then we are contenders. Khedira doesn’t have pace and he is 27. Calvaho is 22 with a wonderful strength. He is just like pogba.
Benzema and pogba
Both are favourites of Wenger
I’m expecting us to sign carvalho and remy tbh, we coming to back end of window and we still have the 2 big gaping floors we suffered all last season dm and another proven premier league striker if remy doesn’t come in I expect campbell to be playing upfront if sanago don’t start finding the net
Let him address the main position like 1 dependable left back, + manolas/owedes DM:Kalvaho,Kedirah, left wing marco rues, striker: Martinex or any good 1. And do good team selection without playing players out of position then he can get his Doglas costa. Useless coach who should have taken diego costa n fabrigas
With Giroud injured we really need a striker a DMF n CB but Wenger always want to do things last minute . He is also playing Sanchez out of position and he looks like he s a new comer to the game of football and Wenger is nt making it easy for him the man cant play with his back t the goal
For sure we need a standing dm and a pure and sharp cf,this will help wilshere, rambo and alexis to help us succeed this time!!!
we need a top strka like falcao or cavani & a defensive midfield.
Our defence is a bit too disappointing. Calum is too young to be against established strikers like drogba costa balotelli. We need a physical CM. And q new striker, I wouldn’t mind WELBECK
Wenger is somehow reckles and dont care. He expect to reap what he hasn’t sow. 1 CB:should bring in either manolas or Tobby. 2 DM: Khedira fits well to this role. carvarlho will be another arteta cox he just sits for it just like arteta.
I’m vry pity to our boss Arsense wenger (the professor) because we’re always on internet losing our money without any gud news n there’re many talented players available in the market, instead to be reality he’s guessing they playerz so now I don’t knw which is which?
Well we need charp players like Podolski becus when U look @ Podolski is a very gud finisher more than Giroud. If he said he want 2 go buy some gud replacement like Cavani or Falcao not a small players who does not have strength 2 play full tym.
it is very glaring that we lack a top finisher and a holding midfielder in the likes of Henry and Veira respectively. Wenger shuld go for Cavani/falcao and Cavalho of sporting to strengthen the squad both in attack and midfield. arteta and Flamini are both old with weak bones. Gunners 4 life
