Manchester United’s interest in Juan Cuadrado has dragged on for a while, but could finally be about to reach its exciting conclusion. With The Red Devils seemingly unable to bring themselves to ask the girl to prom, it looked like this deal would never come to pass. Fortunately enough, it looks like they’ve finally found the courage to make something happen.
A few days back, The Mirror ran a story suggesting that Manchester United had ‘won’ the race to sign the fleet-footed Colombian forward. They claimed that The Red Devils had already agreed a £36m deal to sign Juan Cuadrado.
They also carried quotes from Fiorentina president Andrea Dalla Valle, who spoke of his willingness to sell the Colombian:
“…You need to understand if an important offer does arrive, it is like a loose train and I can’t hang on. I told the player and underlined things that there is a serious project here and he could remain for one more season, in a winning side. He is honest and serious with us, and I told him if an offer should arrive we would free him.”
It all looks fairly positive. Fiorentina are ready and willing to do business for the right price and the British press are reporting a done deal. All being well, official confirmation can’t be too far away.
Louis Van Gaal has made it clear that his side lack balance and he’s previously singled out the flanks as an area of weakness.
Cuadrado, a winger who scored one goal and made four assists at this year’s World Cup, can help to rectify this situation. He’s pacey, he’s got excellent technical ability and he’s a smart cookie. He’d represent a significant improvement on the likes of Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Nani.
It looks like the Manchester United hierarchy have finally arrived at a decent decision. Cuadrado hasn’t come cheap, but I have little doubt that he’ll prove to be an excellent investment.
