Would this £35m double-deal be the perfect start to Arsenal’s summer spending spree?

Mathieu Debuchy (France)The Gunners have been slow to act this summer, but I’m sure that Arsene Wenger is already making plans, singling out targets and reaching out to the right people. After all, he’s got a lot of work to do this summer. He’s got to make multiple signings in different areas of his squad if The Gunners are to truly compete next season.

This brings me to an article that The Mirror ran recently, that should have Arsenal fans very excited. The source claimed that ‘Arsene Wenger is confident’ that his club will seal two deals for two World Cup stars. The players in question are Chilean ace Alexis Sanchez and French sensation, Mathieu Debuchy.

Both players look like they’d be smart additions to The Gunners squad. What’s more, they both look capable of making an instant impact in the Premier League.

This is true of Alexis Sanchez because he’s in such fine form at the moment. He scored 21 goals last season and made 17 assists. He also impressed during the World Cup, so why would he struggle playing in England? The only question in my mind is why Barcelona are willing to let him go.

Then there’s Mathieu Debuchy, who looks like an excellent replacement for Bacary Sagna. The Frenchman already has Premier League experience and has been fairly impressive throughout his time at Newcastle United.

After an initial transitional period, he’s now started to demonstrate his best form. He’s a fearless attacker and an astute defender. I’m not sure that he’s as good as Sagna, but he’s certainly a good option.

The Mirror claims that Debuchy would cost as little as £10m (I find that somewhat hard to believe) and that Sanchez could be available for £25m. The Gunners could be on the brink of a £35m double-deal here.

That would be an excellent way to kick-start The Gunners’ summer spending spree. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger is also looking at another centre-back, an out-and-out striker and reserve keeper.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners look to sign this dynamic duo? What other areas do they need to bolster this summer?

Gunners management are begining to sit up. Wenger should identify targets and the top guys the buying. We are geting tired of No. 4. If we secure Sanchez. Debuchy and a classy DM, we are favourites. Again, Campbell should take the place of Sanogo, else Wenga would be seen as promoting a French course.
