BonyI’m sure the news of Luis Suarez’s Anfield exit will have come as a disappointment to most Liverpool fans. Yes, the Uruguayan was a bit of a nuisance (to put things mildly!), but he was also the clubs most effective attacking talent and a true game-winner.

Whilst they won’t miss having a player who seems to pick up a long-term ban every year, they will miss his goals. It’s going to be interesting to see how Brendan Rodgers goes about replacing him.

According to The Mirror, The Reds already have a target in mind. The Mirror claim that Swansea City’s star striker, Wilfried Bony, is now Liverpool’s next major transfer target. Whilst he’s no where near as technically gifted or unpredictable as Suarez, he is an effective presence in front of goal.

Last season he scored 25 goals for The Swans – that was in his first year on British soil. Most players need a few months to adapt to Premier League football, but Bony took to it like a duck to water.

Wilfried Bony’s goal-scoring record tracks all the way back to his time at Dutch side, Vitesse Arnhem, where he scored 53 goals in 73 appearances. It was this form that saw him earn a £12m move to Wales last summer. Now it looks like The Swans want £19m in return for their star striker.

In other words, Swansea City would be making a £7m profit on Bony, whilst Liverpool would be receiving a classy player with a great goal-scoring record. We could be on the verge of a win-win here.

The truth is, there’s no real replacement for Luis Suarez. The Reds best option is to double down. If Brendan Rodgers can call upon both Daniel Sturridge and Wilfried Bony, Liverpool should have enough firepower to compete at the top of the table next season.

Let’s just hope that The Reds spend the money they received from the Suarez sale wisely.

What’s your take? Would Wilfried Bony be a good choice for Liverpool?
