Should Spurs make a move for this £15.8m talent?

Antoine Griezmann (2)Whilst Tottenham’s Premier League rivals continue to strengthen throughout the summer transfer window, Mauricio Pochettino has been comparatively quiet.

Given the spending spree that Andre Villas-Boas (and Daniel Levy) went on last summer, I’m sure that most Spurs fans will be a little disappointed. Players like Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado, Etienne Capoue and Erik Lamela may not have been a hit at White Hart Lane, but the arrival of new players does a lot to stir belief among fans.

Given the way that things went down last season, and the way that other clubs continue to bring exciting players in, I’d argue that Spurs could do with some belief.

This brings me to Tottenham’s interest in French international, Antoine Griezmann. The 23-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in world football. I can’t help but feel that he’d be an excellent addition to this Spurs side. He’s the kind of signing that would get fans back on side and put the club in a good position for the coming season.

Griezmann, known for his excellent close control, fast running and goal-scoring nous has been in fine form for the last 24 months. He was a hit at the World Cup and has been scoring goals for fun at Real Sociedad.

Last season he made 49 appearances for Sociedad and managed to find the back of the net 20 times. That’s a fine return for a young winger.

The Metro claim that both Tottenham and Monaco have launched £15.8m bids for the Frenchman. It’s worth noting that Griezmann’s got a £25m release clause written into his current contract. In other words, Spurs know what it will take to close this deal.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Pochettino is willing to cough up that much money. If he’s willing to go toe-to-toe with Monaco, he could end up getting his hands on a very impressive player indeed.

Whether Antoine Griezmann is good enough to fire Spurs to a Champions League position remains to be seen, but he’s a good start. Let’s just hope that Pochettino is able to see off the competition and close the deal.

What’s your take? Is Antoine Griezmann the right choice for Spurs? Are there other options that they should be considering?

How can spurs possibly compete with Monaco’s money? That is unless Griezeman enjoys a good riot from time to time.

It is wages that Spurs cannot compete with Monaco, they could buy the player quite easily but would not pay ridiculous wages. As for riots, I worked all over London on the night of the last Tottenham riot and the whole of London was affected not just Tottenham, most rioters were just using the Tottenham riot as an excuse to loot not as a protest against the shooting.

offer near the escape money.we don’t have one wide man who can score goals.sell two or three and more then cover the money required.

Out of the 7 players Spurs purchased last season for Bale…Sob Sob…Only Erickson should wear a Spurs shirt….would hire speedy auto to bring the below average 6 immediately to airport!
Ask Lennon -Noughton…Rose…to join them….Use funds to bring in new players….Davis + new goal keeper great news!…..Cheers ….Aloha…. HOPEFUL….Derek

He’s not going to put us the CL unless he can score five goals a game. We need to sign at least one more, if not two, CBs first. He’s a fine player but a luxury compared to what we need most. If Lamela and Soldado are even competent this season and we stop leaking bad goals, that’s the better way to improve.

let us look @ our wingers- Lennon, chadli r waste no doubt… hv hopes on lamela…. Townsend s a fine back up…. ultimately we can certainly add a goal scaring winger…..

I personally think £25m is a bargain for a player as young as him with so much potential. I agree we need to strengthen the defence – but him and Lamela on the wings would be incredible!

  • Simo says:

I think it would be a great buy he has shown he can score goals and also provide them. Is $25 million too much no way levy pay the cash and get him in now
