Should QPR really be interested in this ex-Arsenal ace?

Eduardo (Shakhtar Donetsk)When Eduardo left The Emirates back in 2010, I didn’t expect to see him ever make a return to the Premier League. But if the papers are to be believed that could be exactly what’s about to happen.

You’ll probably remember Eduardo from the horror tackle that was inflicted on him by Birmingham’s Martin Taylor. That tackle ruled him out of the game for a year and I think it’s fair to say that it’s undermined what could have been a seriously promising career.

In the season prior to his injury, he scored 12 goals in 31 games. In the season after his injury, he scored only 6 goals in 32 appearances. You can see the decline, can’t you?

Whilst Arsenal fans were sad to see him go, given the man’s poor fortune, it was a necessity at the time. In the end he ended up moving to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2010. Since then he has spent four seasons in Ukrainian football, has made 113 appearances for Donetsk and has found the back of the net 36 times. In truth, that’s not a fantastic return for a striker.

With that in mind, it’s interesting to see The Mirror claim that ‘Harry Redknapp is considering a move for ex-Arsenal striker Eduardo’. They also note that the Brazilian would be available as a free transfer, as he’s reached the end of his Shakhtar Donetsk contract. Stoke City and West Ham are also thought to be interested.

At 31-years-old, Eduardo is now approaching the autumn of his career. But he does have Premier League experience and a few goals to his name. Given that he would be available as a free transfer, perhaps there is some logic to Redknapp’s interest.

Whilst he’s never going to be QPR’s main striker, he could be a good back-up option. I’d certainly love to see him get another run out in the Premier League. If there’s any one who deserves it, it’s him.

What’s your take? Is Eduardo a good option for Queens Park Rangers? Or is he now too old and delicate?
