Divock OrigiThe Belgian team really are a remarkable bunch. It defies explanation how that nation has been able to produce so many technically gifted footballers of the same generation. Looking through their first-team, it’s remarkable how many big-name players are a part of their set-up.

Better still, every year or so a bright young spark gets added to the list. The latest youngster to make their mark at international level is World Cup sensation Divock Origi. The Lille centre-forward has been able to demonstrate his pace, power and technical presence and it’s clear that he’s one to watch.

According to The Mirror, his performances have turned him into a Liverpool transfer target this summer.

Last season Origi made 35 appearances for Lille, scored 6 goals and made 2 assists. Whilst that’s not an amazing return for a centre-forward, but it’s worth noting that he’s only 19-years-old. The fact that he’s making 35 appearances for a top flight team at all is impressive.

Lille clearly rate him and he’s shown enough to break into a talented Belgium international squad. Why wouldn’t The Reds be interested in a player who’s clearly going places?

Of course, Brendan Rodgers has already moved to sign Rickie Lambert this summer, but the former Southampton man is no spring chicken. Bringing in a younger option certainly can’t hurt, especially with players like Iago Aspas failing to make the grade.

It’s also worth noting that Luis Suarez (love him or hate him) could well move on this summer. If this situation were to arise, Brendan Rodgers would need all the reinforcements he can get.

Whether Origi is good enough to make an instant impact remains to be seen. The youngster is certainly going to find it hard work getting past Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order.

That’s as maybe, but Divock Origi has youth on his side. He’s a long-term option and one that’s likely to grow into this Liverpool side as the years go by.

The aforementioned source claims that Liverpool are about to launch a £9.8m bid for the Belgian international. That’s a lot of money for a young player, but Origi looks like a worthy investment. Let’s hope he proves to be worth his price-tag.

What’s your take? Would Divock Origi be a good option for The Reds?
