Should Liverpool replace Luis Suarez with this £50m duo?

Lazar Markovic (Benfica)At the moment, Liverpool have a severely divided fan-base. There are those individuals who are backing their troublesome striker, Luis Suarez and there are those who feel that it’s the right time for the Uruguayan to move on.

Yes, he was fantastic last season and almost managed to lead The Reds to the Premier League title, but he also can’t be trusted. He’s not somebody who you can count on for an entire season, so perhaps it’s time to sell him on?

After all, selling him would have two positive knock-on effects. It would reunite Liverpool’s fractured fan-base and it’d provide Brendan Rodgers with a whole load of spending money.

We’ve seen in the past that Brendan Rodgers is an extremely smart cookie, who knows how to work the transfer market. Imagine if he had £80m to spend this summer.

Well, according to The Mirror, The Reds are considering selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona, for a figure that amounts to around £80m. That’s enough money to shape this Liverpool squad for many years to come.

The aforementioned source also notes that the Liverpool hierarchy have highlighted two players they want to sign in order to lessen the blow of losing Suarez. The two men in question are Barcelona winger/striker, Alexis Sanchez and Benfica’s wing-wizard, Lazar Markovic.

Markovic has been a long-term target for The Reds, whilst Alexis Sanchez is a relatively new blip on Rodger’s radar. Still, both of them clearly have the talent to make their mark at Anfield.

Between them, Sanchez and Markovic scored 28 goals and made 21 assists last season. Whilst Sanchez did the majority of the work here, it’s worth noting that Markovic is only 20-years-old. He’s very talented for his age, but he’s still going to improve over the coming years.

The aforementioned source claims that Sanchez has a £30m price-tag, whilst Markovic would cost £20m. In other words, Liverpool can bring these two in and still have £30m left over from the Suarez sale to spend on their defense. That sounds like a solid investment to me.

What’s your take? Is it time to sell Luis Suarez? Would Alexis Sanchez and Lazar Markovic be good replacements?

Yet another daily dose of Suarez transfer speculation and conjecture. Very sad lives these feature writers have. How can thus be an issue to debate when LFC won’t sell him.

I agree that it is a good investment to sell Suarez and push in Alexis Sanchez and Lazar Markovic to Anfield. Although Suarez is a fantastic talent, Liverpool would have to move on one day without him. And now that he is committed to playing in Spain and he is still worth plenty money, this is the best time to cash in. It must be considered that Suarez may not have another season at Anfield as good as this past season (31 goals in 33 appearances); so it makes a lot of sense to me for LFC to strike while the iron is hot. Markovic and Sanchez with perhaps Shaqiri should provide more than adequate cover in Suarez’s absence for the Reds.
