Should Arsenal snap up this uncertain £30m superstar?

Jackson MartinezArsenal have already spent big on a striker this summer, but I can’t help but wonder if there’s more work to be done in this department before the transfer window slams shut.

I have little doubt that Alexis Sanchez will prove to be a smart signing for The Gunners. Yes, he’s going to come complete with a huge price-tag and a lot of pressure on his shoulders, but he’s more than good enough to compete in the Premier League. He’s physically tough, quick along the ground and a force of nature in front of goal.

At the moment, however, it’s not clear where Arsene Wenger is going to play him. Will he be deployed out wide, or will he be providing competition for Olivier Giroud next year?

Whilst there’s a lack of clarity in this department, I’m sure that The Gunners will continue to get linked to a series of talented strikers.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that The Gunners are still in the market for FC Porto’s superstar striker, Jackson Martinez. This should come as exciting news for Arsenal fans, as Martinez is one of the deadliest finishers in Europe. He’s great with both feet and has managed to find the back of the net 60 times in 91 games for Porto. That’s an absolutely staggering return.

Luckily for The Gunners, there seems to be some uncertainty surrounding his future. Check out these quotes from the player himself:

“I do not know what will happen. I have a contract for two more years with Porto and I know there is interest from several clubs.”

Could one of those interested clubs be Arsenal?

The Star suggests that Martinez would cost as much as £30m, so he’d represent another big-money signing for The Gunners. But with Jackson Martinez, Alexis Sanchez AND Olivier Giroud leading the line, Arsenal would represent an entirely different proposition next season.

Arsene Wenger is notoriously frugal in the transfer market, but I hope he continues this summer’s spending spree by bringing in Jackson Martinez.

What’s your take? Do The Gunners need another striker? Would Jackson Martinez be a good choice?

Is 60 in 90 phenomenal in Portugal? Not so sure myself.
Sanchez and Khedeira are big money, but proven at the very highest level.
JM would be something of a risk for similar money.
There HAS to be better options for 30m, surely?

Jackson Martinez is the best way to go to complite the statement of intent on our attck. Offcourse we need right back and DM another keeper. All big teams have resources in their attack. Look at Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool they all have depth except Arsenal in their strike force.
