Casillas2Whilst Wojciech Szczesny has just enjoyed a banner season at The Emirates, it’s worth noting that The Gunners are a little short in the goalkeeping department. Szczesny looks capable of holding down a starting berth for some time, but The Gunners don’t have any real back-up options.

What happens if Szczesny picks up an injury? What if he gets suspended (he can’t be a little rash from time-to-time, can’t he?). The Gunners could end up getting caught with their pants down here.

What’s more, Arsene Wenger is a manager who likes to rotate his keepers for FA Cup games. If he doesn’t act in the summer transfer market, he won’t have that option next season.

But if The Mirror is to be believed, he is on the hunt for another keeper. The source claims that he’s considering a move for Real Madrid legend, Iker Casillas. They also suggest that the Spaniard is ‘desperate’ for a move to The Emirates.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper has made 678 appearances for Real Madrid. He’s spent 23 years of his career at the Bernabeu. Unfortunately, despite being beloved by fans, he’s clearly starting to get phased out at Madrid. His appearances for the Galacticos last season were limited to cup run outs.

Maybe this is why he’s so keen for a change of scenery?

It’s also worth noting that he (along with the rest of the Spanish international team) had a poor World Cup. He certainly looks like a player who’s in need of a career pick-me-up.

Despite his poor fortune in recent times, there’s no doubting Casillas’ ability. He’s a hugely experienced, commanding presence, who organises his centre-backs well and has excellent shot-stopping ability. Yes, he’s getting on in years, but it looks like he’s got another two-or-three seasons at the top of his game.

If Madrid are willing to let him go for a reasonable price, then Arsenal should swoop in and swipe him up. Iker Casillas is on the hunt for an exit route. It’s only right that Arsene Wenger should provide him with one.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners really be interested in this Real Madrid legend?
