SchneiderlinWhilst other clubs have been fairly quick to act in the transfer market, The Gunners seem to be biding their time. I’m sure fans are hoping that a cavalcade of transfers are incoming, but for the time being, they’ll have to remain patient and hope that there’s plenty of activity going on behind the scenes.

One area of the squad that The Gunners need to look at is their defense. Whilst Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny have started to shore things up at the back, Arsenal did suffer a few humiliating big away game defeats last season. When the going got tough, The Gunners cracked and Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea were able to take advantage.

If Arsenal’s centre-backs aren’t to be blamed, then perhaps we should be looking at their current defensive midfield options. Are Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini really good enough to provide The Gunners’ back-four with the protection it needs?

Whilst Mikel Arteta’s great at keeping possession he lacks and real physical threat and isn’t much of a ‘ball-winner’. Mathieu Flamini, on the other hand, is a fantastic tackler, but he too is a little short and slight. Both players are getting on in years. Maybe it’s time to consider bringing somebody else in?

According to The Mirror, Arsene Wenger is ready to ‘firm up his interest’ in Southampton’s holding midfielder, Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Frenchman isn’t much taller than Mathieu Flamini, but he’s a tough individual who has bags of energy. He’s a genuinely dynamic presence in the middle of the park who loves to charge about the pitch, diving into tackles and winning back possession.

In other words, I think he’d be an excellent addition to this Arsenal side. What’s more, it looks like the player himself is ready to make a move to North London. The aforementioned source claims that Schneiderlin isĀ ‘confident’ that he will be leaving The Saints this summer.

If he’s that confident, it suggests that there’s been some activity behind the scenes. Let’s hope that this is the case and that this deal gets wrapped up sharpish!

What’s your take? Should The Gunners join the rest of the world in picking apart this Southampton squad?
