Luis SuarezThere’s been a lot of column inches written about Luis Suarez over the last week or so. We’ve seen a lot of different opinions from Liverpool fans. Still it’s difficult to really gauge fan-feeling at the moment. Some are choosing to back their star player, despite everything, whilst others are beginning to get disheartened with the Uruguayan’s constant antics.

At this stage, there’s nothing new to say about the situation. For what it’s worth, I can’t help but feel that it’s time for Liverpool to start entertaining offers for their troublesome centre-forward. Given his propensity for picking up long-term bans, selling him for a huge fee could be the best possible step forward for The Reds.

I appreciate that not everyone will agree with this (look at me, trying to be all diplomatic). But if the right offer comes in, maybe these naysayers will have their minds changed.

What, for instance, should we make of The Mirror’s claim that Liverpool want two things in exchange for Luis Suarez: £56m and Chilean forward, Alexis Sanchez. That’s a huge wad of cash and a seriously impressive player. Surely this is the kind of deal that should give The Reds pause for thought?

The source notes that Sanchez’s current market value is around £25m. In essence, Liverpool would be receiving £81m for a player who often seems to be more trouble than he’s worth. It’s a far cry from the £40m (+£1) that Arsenal were offering last summer. If Barcelona are willing to offer this kind of deal, Brendan Rodgers should bite their hand off.

Sanchez isn’t a Luis Suarez level player, but he’s certainly a good one. Last season he made 54 appearances for Barcelona, scored 21 goals and made 17 assists. He’s capable of playing as a striker and out on the wings. With Sanchez on one side, Daniel Sturridge down the middle and Raheem Sterling on the other side, Liverpool can still offer a seriously effective attacking unit.

And imagine what Brendan Rodgers could do with £56m? Who’s to say he can’t find the next Luis Suarez? Let’s just hope he’s not quite so difficult to manage.

What’s your take? Should The Reds really be entertaining offers for Luis Suarez?
