The Reds biggest issue last summer wasn’t their attack, it was their leaky defense. So why does Brendan Rodgers keep getting linked to top quality attacking options? Shouldn’t his priority be bringing in the right defensive personnel to balance out this Liverpool side and prevent them from conceding so many goals again next season?
Let’s not forget that The Reds conceded 50 Premier League goals last season. Defeats and draws against clubs like Chelsea and Crystal Palace where both harmful and completely unnecessary.
Wouldn’t a player like Sami Khedira help to shore up Liverpool at the back? The German defensive midfielder is an experienced unit who looks more than capable of slotting right into a Premier League side.
According to The Mirror, The Reds are mulling over a £15m bid for the Real Madrid midfielder. It’s about time that they started getting linked to some decent defensive personnel.
The source also suggests that Khedira is keen on a move away from The Bernabeu. He’s been the subject of a number of niggly injuries in recent months and has struggled to find his best form over the last year. I’m not sure he feels particularly loved in La Liga and he may fancy a move away to try and re-find his best form.
It’s also worth noting that £15m is a great price for a player with so much experience. The 27-year-old has played 144 games for Real Madrid over 4 years. You don’t get that much match-time at a top club like that without having something special about your game.
Khedira is a hard worker who buzzes about the pitch, slams into tackles and makes countless interceptions. He’s very effective at what he does and I’m sure he’d slot right into this Liverpool side.
So here’s hoping that Brendan Rodgers takes a break from attracting Europe’s best young attacking talents, to sign a top defender like Sami Khedira.
