Should Manchester United tie up this £24m deal?

With silly season well on the way and Manchester United’s season from hell over, it’ll be interesting to see how the club recovers. With Louis Van Gaal now in charge, The Red Devils are in a great position to start afresh.

What’s more, Van Gaal is more domineering, experienced presence. I can’t help but feel that he has the gravitas necessary to attract the kind of players that David Moyes just couldn’t. Sure, dithering Dave got his hands on Juan Mata, but that was mostly because the Spaniard wasn’t getting a look in at Chelsea.

If the Press are to be believed, Van Gaal is already making some serious in roads in the transfer market. He has already been linked to just about every Dutch player under the sun. Now, according to The Mirror, Manchester United are preparing a £24m bid for Atletico Madrid’s highly-thought of centre-back, Miranda.

Luckily, we’re not talking about the British comedienne. Manchester United’s defense will already be laughable enough without the presence of experienced centre-backs, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Both defenders are leaving Old Trafford this summer and they’ll leave behind them a big void that will need to be filled by some fresh blood. This is where a player like Miranda could prove to be a masterstroke.

That Manchester United are willing to offer £24m for him (his release clause), is revealing. It’s clear that the 29-year-old has real talent. He, along with Diego Godin, has been essential in helping Atletico Madrid to (miraculously) win the La Liga title this season.

The Brazilian international (7 caps) is strong in the air, quick along the ground and he’s not afraid to dive into tackles. Luckily, he’s got timing and doesn’t make a lot of errors or make rash decisions. He has all the quality necessary to make it in the Premier League.

If he’s the first player that Louis Van Gaal signs, he’ll be off to a flying start. I just can’t wait to see who follows him.
