Should Liverpool speed ahead with this £16m deal?

Alberto MorenoIt looks like Brendan Rodgers means business this summer. At the very least he’s working hard to make sure that Liverpool get their summer transfer work done quickly.

He knows as well as anybody else how close The Reds came to winning the big prize last season. Yes, they fell at the final hurdle, but there’s no doubting how far Liverpool have come over the last 12 months. With a couple more world-class additions to the squad, who knows what they’ll be capable of?

It’s particularly smart to get the business done early. That way the new additions will have time to adapt to their new surroundings before the season begins.

Whilst Liverpool targets like Adam Lallana wouldn’t need too much time to adapt at Anfield, Rodgers’ other key target, Sevilla left-back, Alberto Moreno, would probably benefit significantly.

That’s why I was delighted to see The Mirror claim that The Reds are closing in on a deal for the £16m rated full-back.

Moreno was recently excluded from the Spanish international World Cup squad. That’s bad news for the player himself, but it could prove to be good move for Liverpool. After all, there’s now more time for The Reds to sit down with the player (and his club) and attempt to hash out terms.

Alberto Moreno’s rise to prominence over the last 18-or-so months has been quite remarkable. The fleet-footed full-back is a genuinely exciting young talent who loves to make marinading runs up the wing, get into dangerous positions and fire in crosses. He’s a deadly force, but he’s also an astute defender. At 20-years-old, he could blossom into something very special indeed.

In terms of pure potential, the only other left-back in the market who matches Moreno at the moment is Luke Shaw. I’m not sure The Reds can afford to chase that particular Southampton starlet, but it does look like they’re ready to compete for Moreno. With the player reportedly keen on the move, perhaps it won’t be too long until he’s found his way to Anfield.

The sooner, the better.

What’s your take? Are you glad to see The Reds take their pursuit of Alberto Moreno to the next level?
