Antoine GriezmannAfter an exciting end to the season for The Gunners, Arsenal fans will be hoping that Arsene Wenger grants them an exciting summer. To put things a little more precisely, Arsenal fans will be hoping that The Professor belies expectations, loosens the club’s purse strings and spends some serious cash.

After all, if The Gunners can bring in some seriously high-quality options this summer, they’ll be in an extremely strong position next season. They held on to the top of the Premier League for a long time this year. Now all they need is some staying power.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what areas Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen. For my money, I can’t help but feel that Arsenal need a second choice goalkeeper, another centre-back, a replacement right-back (should Bacary Sagna move on) and a striker. He may also be tempted to sign another winger, as The Gunners have looked a little sluggish and uninspired in this area whilst Theo Walcott has been out injured.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that The Gunners have already ‘kick-started’ their summer spending by making a ‘formal bid’ for long-term transfer target, Antoine Griezmann. Arsenal fans will likely have heard this name numerous times before. The Real Sociedad wing-wizard has been in excellent form over the last 18 months and his French heritage has had the Press linking him with a move to The Emirates for quite some time.

It’s not all that surprising, therefore, to hear that Arsenal have made an £18m bid for the player. I’d argue that this represents fair market value for a footballer who has scored 16 goals and made 4 assists in La Liga over the last year.

Arsene Wenger will also be impressed by his work-rate and his willingness to make a run in behind. In this sense, he’s the perfect tonic to Lukas Podolski, who is often too static out on the wings for Arsenal. Having somebody who’s willing to take defences on could make all the difference in the world for The Gunners, particularly with Mesut Ozil delivering killer passes.

£18m is a lot of money, but in this case, it looks like a smart move. Let’s hope Arsenal’s formal offer gets accepted.

What’s your take? Would Antoine Griezmann improve this Arsenal side in a major way?

The author of this article ignores the most inportant area of Arsenal’s squad that needs strength, that area is central defensive midfielder. By all meens get Griezmann but Wenger should not neglect that key part of his team.

In my opinion, Arsenal doesn’t need Griezman though.I think Wenger should bring in on loan Campbell for that job,get an aggressive holding midfielder, a centre half, Sagna’s replacement perhaps, Aurier and a clinical centre forward.
