Lorenzo InsigneWith both Arsenal and Spurs on the hunt for a world-class striker (or two) this summer, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the two clubs clash in the transfer market. Whilst the Gunners have largely had things their way (vs. Spurs) this season, Spurs may be better placed to compete financially with Arsene Wenger, who is notoriously tight-fisted.

This brings me to The Star‘s claim that both Arsenal and Tottenham are currently interested in Napoli’s highly regarded young forward, Lorzeno Insigne. Fight!

Insigne is a top talent, who has put in a number of decent displays this season. He’s also a little inconsistent. On one or two occasions this season he hasn’t performed as expected. This has resulted in Napoli fans turning on him.

It’s clear that this criticism, minor as it may appear to us, has got to him. The player went as far as to claim that he ‘means nothing to the Napoli fans’. Spoken like a scorned man, eh?

On the face of things, it’s difficult to see why he’s getting criticised. The 22-year-old has been fairly effective this season, especially considering his age and inexperience. The arrival of Gonzalo Higuain at Napoli has forced him out of his favoured centre-forward position and out onto the wings. Despite this change of scenery, he’s still managed to chip in with 8 goals and 9 assists.

That means he’s effecting the match in a very meaningful way at least once every two games. What’s to complain about?

It’s easy to see why Arsenal and Spurs are interested. They’re in need of a top quality striker and could offer Insigne game-time in the position of his preference. What’s more, given the player’s current status at Napoli, there’s every reason to believe that the Serie A side would be willing to sell up.

And if the player has a say in the matter, I’m sure he’d prefer to move to Arsenal. The Gunners have Champions League football to offer, which means more games and more game time for the young centre-forward. If he gets past Olivier Giroud in the pecking order, he’ll get a lot of minutes under his belt next year.

The Star suggests that the player could be available for £20m. That’s a lot of money, but it’s certainly within Arsenal’s financial wheelhouse. Now we just need to wait and see whether Arsene Wenger can out-bid Daniel Levy and co.

What’s your take? Who would represent a better fit for Lorenzo Insigne: Arsenal or Spurs?

He starts in all the big games, is a Born and bred Napoli fan and Benitez is a huge fan. His status at the club is solid and he wouldn’t drop to Spurs and Arsenal have no chance of signing him.
