Why it’s time for Liverpool to finally make this £8m signing:

Liverpool fans may be feeling a little hard done by for the way that the end of the season has treated them, but now is exactly the right moment for The Reds to pick themselves up and start planning for next time round. Brendan Rodgers certainly won’t be wallowing. I’m sure he’s already hashing out a plan to come back even stronger next term.

Part of this plan will be to make a couple more signings. Whilst I’m sure he’ll look to shore up his defense, I wouldn’t be too upset to see him double down on his attacking options. After all, it’s their attack that has carried them this season. Why shouldn’t The Reds stick to what they’re good at?

Given the way that Victor Moses (who’s currently on loan from Chelsea) has disappointed, I’m sure that Brendan Rodgers is weighing up his options down the flanks. If he finds the right candidate for the job, perhaps he’ll make his move.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool have ‘approached Barcelona’ in an attempt to sign their talented young winger, Cristian Tello, when the summer transfer window opens. The source suggests that an £8m deal could be on the cards. This is very exciting news indeed. Brendan Rodgers seems to have a habit for plucking up technically gifted youngsters at bargain prices.

If Tello’s development kicks up a gear, he could well blossom into a £20-30m player over the next couple of seasons. He’s got so much pace, flair and direct attacking verve, that he’s sure to catch the eye and I have little doubt that he’ll be a success playing for Liverpool as they’re currently set-up.

If Brendan Rodgers manages to squeeze Tello, Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling into one attacking line-up, Liverpool would come back in a remarkably strong position next season. Who knows, maybe they’ll be able to nab the big prize next time round?

If Brendan Rodgers continues to make smart signings like this, I wouldn’t bet against him.
