Should Manchester United snap up this ‘house-hunting’ £27m star?

Luke ShawFor the last six months or so, The Red Devils have been strongly linked to Southampton’s inordinately talented left-back, Luke Shaw. The transfer tattle has gone on so long that it almost seems inevitable that the left-back will end up moving to Old Trafford at some stage. There’s no smoke without fire, after all.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that the 18-year-old has already started looking for a house near to Manchester United’s training grounds. If this is true, it’s very exciting news indeed. They even quote a source ‘close to the family’, who says:

“Luke is still only 18 and his family want everything to be right for him. Where he lives and how he adjusts to a new city is a big thing for them – but now they are convinced about the move.”

Intriguing stuff, eh? Of course, it could all be nonsense, but I’m sure that Manchester United fans will want this one to go ahead. So could a £27m deal for the full-back be on the cards?

With United’s current option, Patrice Evra’s future uncertain, it’s important that Louis Van Gaal ties up this lose end. The Red Devils don’t want to get caught with their pants down again next season, do they?

Shaw, who’ll be on the plane to Brazil this summer, is one of his country’s best young talents. He’s got bags of pace, works hard, has a fine cross on him and plenty of attacking flair. I think he could probably work on his defensive qualities, but let’s not forget that he’s just 18-years-old. There’s areas of his game that are still developing.

There will be some who feel that it’s too early for him to make a move to a big club. But given that he’s already got Premier League experience and has been performing at the top level for quite some time, I’d say he’s worth a gamble. This boy is going to be something special and it’s smart for Manchester United to get in on the ground floor.

If Shaw really is looking for a new house, a deal could be nearer than we think. Now that would provide real cause for cheer for Manchester United fans.

What’s your take? Where does Luke Shaw’s future lie?

Dream on-Evra just signed a one year contract to stay at Utd.
Why would Luke go to be a bench warmer when he’s assured of first team football at Saints?
