Steven CaulkerNow that Cardiff City have been propelled back into the Championship (goodbye guys, we barely knew you!) their key players all seem to be getting offered to other Premier League clubs. This has meant that their top quality centre-back, Steven Caulker and goalkeeping sensation, David Marshall have been linked to a number of high profile moves over the last couple of weeks.

I can’t help but wonder if The Red Devils might be interested in one of these Cardiff City stars. After all, it looks like they’re about to face a crippling defensive exodus.

Nemanja Vidic is off to try his hand in Serie A, whilst Rio Ferdinand’s future remains uncertain. These are Manchester United’s two most experienced defenders and there’s a good chance the club will suffer without them. Whoever takes charge at Old Trafford needs to make some very astute purchases in this area. Failure to do so could result in further stagnation for this once great club.

This brings me to [football] direct‘s claim that Manchester United have, in fact, ‘made moves to make a summer bid’. I wonder what making moves to make a summer bid looks like? Does it involve making a note in your diary to give Cardiff City a call on the first day of the next transfer window?

At 22-years-old, The English centre-back has produced a number of impressive displays this season, even as his team-mates have often let him down. The youngster is quick across the turf, stays glued to his man and is pretty handy in the air as well. If he continues to improve at his current rate, he’s sure to be a star of the future.

In this sense, I think he’d be a great fit for a Manchester United side that’s currently in the process of re-building. The Red Devils need to make their purchases with the future in mind and signing Steven Caulker would certainly be a step in the right direction.

The aforementioned source claims that he could be available for as little as £8m. That’s a good price for a fine young player. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one go ahead.

What’s your take? Should The Red Devils snap up this Premier League talent?
