Should Liverpool snap up this £24m Bundesliga duo?

Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, Liverpool are clearly a side on the up. It took them a while to find their flow this season, but as soon as they did, it was clear that they meant business.

Brendan Rodgers has whipped his troops up into a frenzy and thanks to the technical grace and attacking flair displayed by the team’s best players (Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard), they’ve clambered up the Premier League pretty quickly.

Now it’s up to Brendan Rodgers to come back even stronger next season. With Champions League football on the way, he’ll need to round out his squad and make sure that it’s capable of competing on multiple fronts.

This probably explains why The Reds recently picked links to two Bundesliga stars, both of whom happen to play for Bayer Leverkusen. The players in question are Emre Can, who’s just 20-years-old and his team-mate, Heung-Min Son, who’s 21-years-old. As chance would have it, both players are currently valued at £12m each. Could The Reds be set for a £24m splurge?

Both players would make excellent additions to Liverpool’s squad. As The Mirror note, he’s become known as the ‘new Michael Ballack of German Football’, which must put a lot of pressure on the youngster. Still, despite his youth, he’s made 37 appearances for Leverkusen this season and has found the back of the net 3 times.

Heung-Min Son is a pacey, two-footed striker whose reputation continues to grow throughout the Bundesliga. He’s renowned for his excellent finishing and has nabbed 11 goals and 7 assists in 41 appearances this season. These kind of figures may not set the world alight, but they do show plenty of promise. He’d surely be a step up on the likes of Iago Aspas?

Brendan Rodgers has fostered a reputation for giving good young players a shot and he may spy an opportunity here. Both players have a lot of potential and could well come good at Anfield. All that remains to be seen, is whether Liverpool are ready to loosen their purse strings.
