Should Arsenal grant this French ace his ‘dream’ move?

Emmanuel RiviereIf The Gunners have had one major weakness this season, it’s their lack of firepower upfront. Lukas Podolski has been shifted out wide (and still somehow managed to score a decent number of goals), Theo Walcott has been injured for the majority of the season and Olivier Giroud has been inconsistent. The less said about Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo, the better.

If Arsene Wenger does choose to stay on this summer, I’m sure he’ll be on the hunt for a talented striker to help give The Gunners more goal-threat. If he finds the right player, Arsenal are sure to come back even stronger next year. But failure to bring the right man in could result in another year of stagnation.

This brings me to Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere, who recently told the press:

“I was dreaming of Arsenal. You have to believe and never let go. I’m good at Monaco today, I have three years left on my contract. There will surely be reinforcements this summer. We will see what happens.” (Source: The Star)

That’s a pretty blatant ‘come get me’ plea, isn’t it? The Frenchman didn’t exactly mince his words and made it clear that he’d love a move to Arsenal. The comments about having three years left on his Monaco contract were merely out of respect for his current club.

He’s currently behind both Radamel Falcao and Dimitar Berbatov in the pecking order at Monaco. I don’t really envy his position. Despite this, he’s been quietly effective this season, scoring 10 goals in 27 games, many of which were only substitute appearances.

At 24-years-old he’s still improving and he already looks like a good option. Given his French background, it wouldn’t surprise me if Arsene Wenger were interested. Still, I hope he’s not the only striker Arsenal bring in this summer. I can’t shake the feeling that they need a world-class individual to come in and shake things up.

But with Emmanuel Riviere playing second-fiddle, who knows what The Gunners could be capable of?

What’s your take? Should Arsenal grant this French striker his ‘dream’ move?
