Thomas MullerOver the last 12 months, Manchester United have transformed from Champions into a side that’s in desperate need of a quality injection. Both Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata have been brought in (whilst David Moyes has left), but this hasn’t quite had the effect that The Red Devils would have hoped.

I’m sure that this dynamic duo will come good yet (especially Mata), but it’s clear that there’s still work to be done. Whoever takes charge of Manchester United has a busy summer ahead of them.

Luckily enough, they still seem to pick up links to some of world football’s best and brightest. It looks like Manchester United’s reputation still proceeds them.

Here’s some rather exciting news: The Mirror recently published an article suggesting that Bayern Munich’s superstar midfielder, Thomas Muller, is willing to leave the Germans this summer in favour of a move to Old Trafford.

I’m sure that this news will come as quite a surprise to Manchester United fans, who are used to seeing their club get linked to another Bayern star — Toni Kroos. But Muller is a serious step up.

In 48 games this season he’s scored 24 goals, which is an absolutely sensational return for an attacking midfielder. Compare these stats to Kroos, who has played 48 games, but only scored 4 goals and you can see all the difference that Muller may be able to make to this Manchester United side.

The Mirror report that Muller is ‘unhappy’ at the Allianz Arena, which could leave the door open for Manchester United to sneak in and pluck him up. Now wouldn’t that be something?

The thought of Thomas Muller and Juan Mata playing alongside each other is very exciting indeed. These are two of football’s most crafty, inventive and downright effective players. If these two can’t steady the Manchester United ship, then I don’t know what can.

Of course, it would take a blockbuster offer on the part of Manchester United to push any potential deal through. Still, you can’t win if you don’t play, so let’s hope that Manchester United put their best foot forward this summer.

What’s your take? Is Thomas Muller the ideal Manchester United transfer target?
