Edinson CavaniBy now it’s clear that Manchester United need to make a mammoth signing if they’re going to turn things around. Yes, signing Juan Mata was a bold move, but it looks like they’re going to have to go a step further this summer.

The Red Devils have had this season from hell and whoever takes charge has a seriously tough challenge ahead of them. It’s not clear that Manchester United can still attract top talent, but it is clear that they’ll need to if things are going to pick up next season.

This brings me to Manchester United’s link to Paris Saint Germain’s world-class forward, Edinson Cavani. Whilst these rumours started off a little hard to believe, they’re becoming stronger and stronger by the day. The Mirror suggests that United are preparing a ‘British record-busting £60m bid’. It’s difficult not to get excited.

The Mirror quote a source who says the following: “Edinson believes he will be a perfect fit in England. He knows that United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all interested and would be happy to talk to any of them. But he also knows United seem the most keen and that is a factor.”

I can’t help but hope that this story has a ring of truth about it. Edinson Cavani has exactly the right profile and level of talent to elevate The Red Devils. Since moving to Paris last summer, the Argentine ace has found the back of the net 22 times in 37 games.

I’ve heard reports suggesting that he’s living in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Now given that the big Swede’s record hasn’t been remarkable this season (he has scored 17 times in 40 games), I’d say that he’s living in Cavani’s shadow.

Cavani is increasingly cementing his place as PSG’s top dog, but I can’t help but wonderif he’d fancy a switch to a League that’s more renowned for it’s quality. He’s not exactly testing himself against the world’s best defenses in Ligue 1, is he?

At Manchester United, he’d become a star again. Surely that makes it all worth while, Edinson?

What’s your take? Could The Red Devils really tempt Cavani away from PSG? Should they be targeting more realistic acquisitions?
