JorginhoIt’s been troubling to watch The Gunners enter their annual late season slump. Arsene Wenger’s team tends to crash and burn at about this time every year, but it seems to hurt more this time round. After all, Arsenal have been on top of the Premier League table for the majority of the season.

They were title contenders for so long that it’s genuinely disappointing to see them fall out of the running in the business end of the season. There’s still the FA Cup to compete for of course (and Arsenal’s odds are good in that competition), but Arsene Wenger needs to start building out his transfer plans now.

In particular, he needs to focus on building a team that’s capable of seeing a campaign through to completion. This years squad is just to thin to compete on multiple fronts.

One player they’ve been strongly linked to is Napoli’s highly-rated young midfielder, Jorginho. In fact, The Metro claim that despite having made only 8 appearances in Serie A this season, he’s attracted attention from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, alongside the Gunners.

The 22-year-old made his name playing for Hellas Verona, where he made 94 appearances over three years, scoring 11 goals. He’s not prolific in any sense, but he can be extremely effective on his day.

The Brazilian ace has plenty of attacking flair, oozes confidence on the ball and isn’t afraid to take the opposition on. He’s one of those direct attacking midfielders that Arsene Wenger just loves and I’m sure he’ll fit in just swell along the other talented players currently plying their trade at the Emirates.

The Metro even claim that the player’s agent, Joao Santos, has already met with Arsenal officials to discuss a potential move. It looks like things are already pretty far along.

Whilst Arsene Wenger’s main priority will be bringing in a striker, he does need to increase the number of midfielders in his squad to help deal with any injury issues that arise. The absence of players like Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil has had a massive effect on Arsenal’s season. Signing a player like Jorginho will help to make injury lay-offs like this less painful.

As such, I’d say he’d be an extremely good fit for the Gunners.

What’s your take? Is Jorginho a good option for Arsenal?
