Micah RichardsIt’s about time that Micah Richards kicked his career back into life. It’s amazing that he’s stuck around at the Etihad for so long really. The injuries haven’t helped, of course, but it’s been clear for quite some time that there’s just no place for him within this Manchester City team. In particular, there’s just no getting past Pablo Zabaleta in the pecking order, who is easily one of the best full-backs in the world.

But there’s also no doubting that Richards is a decent player himself. Manuel Pellegrini gave him a small run in the side earlier in the season and he proved that he’s still got bags of pace, energy and drive. I like Richards’ direct attacking nature, the way he likes to commit opposition players and his physicality — other players just seem to bounce off him!

It’s these qualities that led to Brendan Rodgers trying to sign Micah Richards last January. The move never went through (of course), but now The Metro are claiming that Liverpool will re-ignite their interest in the player this summer. They also suggest that Richards will turn down Manchester City’s offer of a new contract and seek a new club when the transfer window re-opens.

It looks like he’s there for the taking. Indeed, the aforementioned source suggests that he could be available for as little as £7m. That’s a fair price for a good player.

I’m sure that Richards will be a little rusty. How could he not be? He hasn’t had a decent run in City’s side for quite some time. But if Liverpool fans are patient and give him a chance to adapt, he could prove to be a real asset to the club. The Reds need more defensive options and the 25-year-old fits the bill.

He’s got Premier League pedigree and he’s keen to find a new club. He also wont break the bank. This could be a match made in heaven! Let’s just hope that Micah Richards gets another chance to prove himself soon.

What’s your take? Should The Reds make Micah Richards a key transfer target?
