Should Arsenal REALLY target Jay Rodriguez?

Jay RodriguezTypical, isn’t it? Just days after Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez picked up a long-term injury, he receives a link to Arsenal. It’s like the press are trying to make Arsene Wenger and co. look like a laughing stock.

The rumour comes courtesy of The Star who even slap an ‘EXCLUSIVE’ to the title. They suggest that Liverpool and Tottenham were also interested in Rodriguez, but have been scared of by the England star’s six-month long injury lay-off whilst he recovers from ruptured knee ligaments.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are as keen as ever. The Star suggest that The Gunners have made an ‘enquiry’ and that he could be a key transfer target in the summer. If this rumour had surfaced a week or so ago, it would have been a cause for celebration. At this stage, it must be head-slappingly frustrating for the Arsenal fans.

First things first: Rodriguez has been fantastic this season. He’s scored 17 goals in 39 games for a mid-table side. This kind of return is very impressive indeed. He’s been so good that he was in contention for a place in England’s World Cup squad, before his injury put the kibosh on that. Luckily he’s still young (he’s just 24-years-old) and will have another chance or two before his career runs its course.

There’s no doubting that Arsenal need another striker. Try as he might, Olivier Giroud can’t do it all alone. He’s too slow and he doesn’t seem to have that killer instinct that strikers like Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero offer in spades.

Jay Rodriguez would have helped, but Arsenal need an immediate solution. They can’t afford to wait for him to convalesce from his injury. They need to make a world-class signing in this department and they need to do it quickly.

Failure to do so could result in Arsenal dropping out of the top four and out of silverware contention for good. I wish Jay Rodriguez all the best and a speedy recovery (let’s hope his form isn’t affected too), but I’m not sure he’s what Arsenal need at this moment in time.

What’s your take? Would Jay Rodriguez be a good ‘get’ for Arsenal? Should they look at less injured options?

i’d take him as our second striker maybe after mandzukic.he is better than giroud.

Enough of this giorld matter, arsenal should sign three proven attackers this summer. Allow him to go, he has no pace, no dribble ability, no Perfect ball control, his shot on the post is bad.
