Morgan SchneiderlinAfter a tough season, results finally seem to be picking up for Manchester United. Dare I say it, but they’re finally beginning to look like their old selves.

In their last three games they’ve twice managed to score four goals (vs Newcastle and Aston Villa) and they’ve even managed to record a draw with Bayern Munich.

This will go down as a transitional season for Manchester United, but it’s clear that there’s something for the club to build on. Juan Mata’s form is particularly promising. The former Chelsea midfielder tore Newcastle United apart last Saturday and once he feels fully at home at Old Trafford, he’s going to be a major asset for the club.

David Moyes just needs to make sure he’s getting the most out of his mercurial midfielder. It strikes me that the best way of doing this is to ensure that he has all the protection he needs in the centre-of-the-park. The more time and space he has, the better he’ll be able to deliver those killer balls that he’s capable of.

It looks like David Moyes is looking to bring in a defensive midfielder. According to The Mirror, Manchester United are ‘targeting a summer move’ for Southampton’s talented Frenchman, Morgan Schneiderlin.

Since the Saints returned to the Premier League, the French holding midfielder has been one of the club’s most important players. His diligent and effective performances in the centre of the park allow players like Adam Lallana to exercise the full range of their technical ability. Perhaps he could do the same job for Juan Mata at Old Trafford.

He’s extremely hard working, covers a lot of ground and also has the ability to support attacks whenever the opportunity arises.

The Mirror suggests that Southampton won’t be willing to let the Frenchman go for less than £15m. That’s a fair price for a player with plenty of Premier League pedigree. It’s also a price that Manchester United should have no problem paying if they are interested in the player.

What’s your take? Is Morgan Schneiderlin a good target for Manchester United? Are there other options out there that David Moyes should consider?
