Can Manchester United STILL sign this £25m Barcelona ace?

Cesc FabregasLast summer, David Moyes (and the entire Manchester United set-up) made a fool of himself by chasing Barcelona’s midfield superstar, Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard’s got deep connections to Manchester United’s rivals, Arsenal and he’s also busy trying to make it at his boyhood club. There was very little chance that Fabregas would jump ship at this moment in time.

Of course, David Moyes has continued to make a fool out of himself ever since. Without wanting to be too harsh about the former Everton man, he’s looked entirely out of his depth this season. Still, I can’t help but wonder if Manchester United will re-ignite their interest in Cesc Fabregas during the next transfer window.

After all, the Spaniard is one of the few players in football with the ability to help Manchester United head back to the top. Sure, sealing the deal would have a high difficulty rating, but that shouldn’t mean steering clear, even if The Red Devils end up having their hands slapped once again.

Luckily, there’s been some good news for Manchester United. The Metro claims that Cesc Fabregas could be a part of a Barcelona ‘squad clear out’ this summer. They suggest that Barcelona may be willing to consider any suitable offers for the Spanish playmaker.

They even slap a £25m price-tag on Cesc Fabregas. Of course, they make no reference to Barcelona’s 14-month transfer ban. Will Barca really be willing to sell an important player like Cesc if they’re unable to bring in a replacement? This particular story seems a bit far-fetched for me.

Still, it won’t hurt Manchester United to try a speculative bid. This is a footballer who has played 51 times this season, has found the back of the net 13 times and has 15 assists to his name. In other words, he’s supremely effective and has been ever since he moved to the Camp Nou.

He’d certainly make for a worthy £25m investment, if Barcelona are willing to sell. This looks like a transfer rumour that’s worth keeping tabs on.

What’s your take? Can Manchester United still sign Cesc Fabregas? Should The Red Devils be chasing more realistic targets?
