Nicolas GaitanIf Liverpool are a side rejuvenated this season (and they are), it’s largely down to Brendan Rodgers, who has proven to be a breath of fresh air for the club.

He inherited a team with Luis Suarez, the Premier League’s best player by some distance, added balance to the side and made a few extremely smart decisions in the transfer market. As a result, Liverpool have begun to shoot back up the Premier League table.

The fact that they’re still in contention for the title at this stage in the season is very impressive indeed. Still, a Champions League slot would be considered a great capper to a top season and anything more than this would provide some serious cause for celebration.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how Brendan Rodgers reacts in the summer. Will he look to bring in further recruits to strengthen the side, or opt to stick with what he’s got.

Fans will be hoping that he chooses to splash the cash, especially as The Reds continue to get linked to some very exciting players indeed.

Case in point: The Mirror recently ran a story suggesting that Liverpool are hot on the trail of Benfica’s talented winger, Nicolas Gaitan. They also suggest that Brendan Rodgers has sent scouts to watch the Argentine ace in action this season and that he’s managed to accrue a £16m price-tag.

That’s a decent amount of cash, but Gaitan has plenty of pedigree. He’s made 163 appearances for Benfica, scoring 23 goals and notching 47 assists. In other words, he’s not a player without end product.

The left-footed winger oozes confidence on the ball, with his expert close control, smart dribbling and willingness to take people on. He’s also handy when it comes to distributing the ball, whether it’s snappy short passes, or probing crosses from out on the flanks.

At 26-years-old, he’s just about to enter the best years of his career. Now’s exactly the right time for Brendan Rodgers to make his move. If the Liverpool boss is interested and Gaitan is available at a fair price, then this would prove to be a fairly easy deal for fans to get behind.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Nicolas Gaitan make a move to Anfield?
