Should Spurs really ‘spend big’ on this top Premier League striker?

Loic RemyIs there anybody in Premier League football more put upon than Roberto Soldado? I can’t help but feel that he needs to set up a club with David Moyes, where they can discuss their weekly disappointments and draw solace from one another.

Spurs lost Gareth Bale last summer, so it was clear that Andre Villas-Boas would have to do something significant in the transfer market to help handle the loss. Soldado was part of this solution, coming from Valencia with a mighty £26m price-tag slapped above his head.

Expectations were high. Unfortunately, the results he’s produced this far have not been up to scratch. In 32 appearances for Spurs, he has found the back of the net just 11 times. A number of these finishes were from the penalty spot and the Spaniard has also been guilty of some dreadful misses over the last few months.

Luckily, Emmanuel Adebayor has been in good form since getting reinstated by Tim Sherwood. Still, it’s clear that Daniel Levy and co. will have to do something drastic in the summer in order to fix Spurs ailing attack.

There’s no use hoping that Soldado will ‘come good’. The club needs to take action and start safeguarding its future.

This brings me to The Express‘ claim that Spurs are interested in signing QPR hotshot, Loic Remy.

The Frenchman is currently out on loan with Newcastle and unlike Soldado, he’s got a great goal-scoring record. In 24 games this season, he’s scored 13 times. That’s a healthy return for a player who has had his fair share of injury issues.

Newcastle will want to keep him at the end of the season, but I’m sure that he’d prefer to leapfrog up the Premier League table with a move to White Hart Lane. What’s more, I’m sure that Spurs are better placed financially in order to tempt QPR into selling.

The Express suggest that £16m may be enough to make a deal happen. If that’s what it takes for Spurs to add some more goal threat to their squad, then so be it. Let’s hope that Daniel Levy is prepared to sign this one off.

What’s your take? Is Loic Remy the right man for the job at White Hart Lane?

This is a personal opionion nothing to do with any premiership striker but i feel if Spurs can`t unearth a striker somewhere in the same mould as Liverpool`s sensational Surez and his goal ratio and work rate spelling might be iffy here then forget it because we will still only get the same type of striker like Soldado remember Pauvluchenko Rebrov and others , the money we have spent on damp squib strikers is unreal we could have got Falcao with that outlay and still be able to pay his wages , forget the cheap look alike strikers get the world class striker who does not need time to settle or learn the lingo with the sale of Rose , Naughton , Soldado , Sigurdsson , Townsend , possibly Vertonghen , Kaboul , Gomes , etc we could get a real striker .
