Should Spurs fight for this £10m summer bargain?

Sadio ManeAfter fighting their way to a 3-2 victory over a strong Southampton side, Spurs are finally beginning to show a bit of bite. Let’s hope this transfers over to the summer transfer window.

The game against Arsenal exposed Tottenham’s soft underbelly. It also made it clear that this is a side that struggles against teams who expressly turn up to defend.

Roberto Soldado has been struggling all season long to find the back of the net and this has impacted massively on the number of points that Tim Sherwood’s side have picked up.

It’s been up to midfielders like Paulinho and Christian Eriksen to provide the goals that aren’t coming from other areas of the pitch.

As such, I’m sure that Tim Sherwood and co. will be well aware of the value of a goal-scoring midfielder. It certainly helped that he had a couple of them in the team that played against the Saints at the weekend.

As it happens, Spurs have also been strongly linked to another goal-scoring midfielder. This time round it’s Red Bull Salzburg’s force of nature, Sadio Mane.

The Senegalese youngster has been impossible to deal with this season, scoring 17 goals in 35 appearances in the Austrian domestic League.

Sure, the Austrian League isn’t home to the world’s best, but the fact that Mane stands head and shoulders above his peers is telling: this man is ready for a move to a big club.

If Tottenham come knocking I’m sure that Sadio Mane would have his head turned. At 21-years-old he’s beginning to come into his own and may well feel that his time has come.

If Spurs are interested, they’ll have to see off Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle United, who have all been hovering waiting for their opportunity to swoop in.

If Chelsea or City are interested, Tim Sherwood and Daniel Levy are likely to get priced out of any potential transfer battle (as they were with Willian during the summer).

But with The Metro claiming that he could cost as little as £10m (a relatively small price for a player with this much promise), I hope that Spurs don’t get put off. If they keep chasing they may just end up with one of the bargains of the summer transfer window.

What’s your take? Would Sadio Mane be a good option for Spurs?

Willian was not a Spurs priced out factor but that he preferred to join Chelsea. Remember the FIFA fair play now. No club can afford to make losses. So no more Man City & Chelsea having few hundred million in transfers.
