Should Manchester United grant this Ligue 1 ace his ‘dream’ move?

Layvin KurzawaAt 32-years-old, it’s perhaps unsurprising that Patrice Evra has had such as wildly inconsistent season. Playing as a full-back is probably the most physically demanding role in football. Evra is fit, physically strong and he works extremely hard.

Still, there comes a time in every player’s career where the joints start to ache, the knees start to creak and their legs start to grow heavier and heavier.

Over the next couple of years we’re likely to see Evra slow down, stop making his buccaneering runs and start to focus more on the defensive side of his game. This is no bad thing in and of itself, but it’s not great for Manchester United, who rely on their full-backs to give them width and take the game to their opponents.

David Moyes needs somebody with a bit of flair to help him turn around this club’s fortunes and I’m just not sure that the Frenchman will be up for the job.

With his future at Old Trafford uncertain, the British media have been lining up a list of potential replacements. This brings me to TalkSPORT’s claim that United are keeping tabs on Monaco’s highly-regarded young left-back, Layvin Kurzawa.

The French U21 international has made 26 appearances for the Ligue 1 club this season and has impressed with his pace, dynamism and his direct attacking nature. He loves to take the game to the opposition, can deliver a decent cross and isn’t afraid to cut inside and create problems for the defense. I won’t underplay the defensive side of his game either. If necessary, Kurzawa can be relied upon.

As it happens, the Frenchman is pretty keen on a move to Old Trafford. Check out these quotes: “The club of my dreams? Manchester United. It is one of my goals to play there one day.”

Pretty definitive, right? If Manchester United are interested it looks like there’s a deal to be done here.

Whilst it will be sad to wave goodbye to Patrice Evra, needs must. If David Moyes is to wipe away the muck of this season, he’ll need to make brave decisions such as this. Let’s just hope that he’s got the guts to do exactly that.

What’s your take? Would Layvin Kurzawa be a suitable replacement for Patrice Evra?
