Should Manchester United chase this £33m wing-wizard?

Arda TuranTwo good results on the trot may have Manchester United fans believing that the club is back on a righteous path. Whilst I’d urge caution, the signs are starting to look good.

Juan Mata, the club’s £37.1m January signing is beginning to exercise more influence on games. Wayne Rooney’s form is beginning to improve (his opener against West Ham was sensational. It takes a special player to even try to score a goal of that nature). Heck, even Marouane Fellaini is beginning to look worthy of his price-tag.

If The Red Devils can put together another victory or two, their confidence levels will increase and hopefully the football they play will start to get better and better.

Then they can start to look towards the summer transfer window with glee, rather than trepidation. When the market re-opens David Moyes will be given (another) opportunity to stamp his mark on this side. It’s his chance to build a team in his image.

It’ll be interesting to see how he handles this responsibility. Will he go in for Juan Mata-level marquee signings, or will he keep his eye out for a few bargains (I believe the latter option is known as ‘The Arsene Wenger Approach’)?

If CaughtOffside are to be believed, David Moyes is going to select the former. The source link Manchester United to a move for Atletico Madrid’s hotly tipped winger, Arda Turan.

The Turkish ace has been one of the catalysts of Atletico’s drive up the La Liga table. Diego Simeone’s side is currently second in the Spanish domestic League and Turan has had a big part to play in this alongside footballers like Diego Costa, Koke and Filipe Luis.

As a result, his price-tag has sky-rocketed. CaughtOffside note that Turan signed a new Atletico Madrid contract last January, that saw his release clause rise from £20m to £33m. If Madrid aren’t prepared to accept a smaller offer, Manchester United really will have to break the bank.

But with Nani, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia all under-performing this year, it may be a necessary move. Turan is one of the most gifted wingers in world football. That makes him a great fit for Manchester United. Let’s hope that this deal goes ahead.

What’s your take? Would Arda Turan be a good choice for Manchester United?
