Manchester United & Kasper Schmeichel: a match made in heaven?

Kasper SchmeichelEngland’s recent international fixture against Denmark was a real bore, but it did provide a showcase for Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. The Dane did a fine job between the sticks, saving a few efforts from the likes of Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge and keeping his side in the game until the dying minutes.

The aforementioned Liverpool striker broke the deadlock in the end, but he didn’t take the gloss off what was a fantastic performance from a very talented goalkeeper. As a result there’s been a fair amount of speculation about what the future holds.

His agent, Mads Frederiksen spoke recently about all the rumours. Check out these quotes:

“Kasper has played on a very high level for a long time, and we can also notice a lot of interest from many clubs. His performance against England doesn’t make the interest smaller. From a commercial perspective, it opens up some great opportunities for Kasper in relation to personal sponsorships, so it’s a very exciting time for him.” (Source: The Mirror)

It’s an exciting time indeed for Kasper, who’s currently hurtling towards the end of his Leicester City contract. He’ll be a free agent in the summer and is likely to attract a lot of attention.

The Mirror even suggest that Manchester United could be interested in a making a move for the 27-year-old. I guess it was only a matter of time before Kasper got linked with a move to The Red Devils. This is the club where his dad, Peter Schmeichel built his career, after all.

With Anders Lindegaard set to leave Old Trafford when the season draws to a close, David Moyes needs to bring in some back up for David de Gea. As such, Kasper Schmeichel may well be viewed as the perfect candidate.

He has a ready made connection to the club, he’s a good keeper and he’d probably be prepared to spend some time on the bench whilst he works his way into the first team.

Peter helped guide his side to the Premier League, FA Cup and European treble back in 1999. If Kasper can be even half as successful, he’ll soon transform into a fan favourite. It’ll certainly be interesting to watch this one develop.

What’s your take? Would you like to see another Schmeichel at Manchester United?

Can´t really see Kasper opting to sit on the bench at Utd, when he is 1st choice at Leicester. That won´t exactly further his aim to be Denmark´s 1st choice keeper.
