FC Schalke 04 TrainingConsidering how well placed Arsenal were during the first half of the season, I can’t help but feel that Arsene Wenger will come to rue his decision to pinch the pennies during the January transfer window.

If the Arsenal boss had brought somebody in it would have fired a message off to the international footballing scene. It would have offered the rest of the squad renewed confidence. It may even have allowed this team to squeeze out a few more points from a tough set of fixtures.

Sure, it will take more than one or two good signings to allow Arsenal to compete with Bayern Munich, but surely there are players out there who could have helped the Gunners to beat the likes of Stoke City?

Surely if Arsenal had recruited one or two big game players, they wouldn’t have suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea?

This is all speculative of course, but it’s difficult not to feel that an opportunity was missed last January.

One of the players that Arsene Wenger was believed to be interested in during the last transfer window was Schalke 04’s highly regarded attacking midfielder, Julian Draxler. Unfortunately no deal ever came to fruition as the Bundesliga side were demanding too much cash in return for the player.

Naturally enough, there’s been plenty of speculation ever since as to whether the Gunners would go back in for the player during the summer. Well, if The Mirror is to be believed, Arsenal are now in ‘pole position’ to sign the young German.

They claim that Bayern Munich were interested in the 20-year-old, but have since decided to stay clear. Check out these quotes from Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge:

“We are not buying any player from Dortmund or Schalke just to hurt these clubs. We are just buying players who can give FC Bayern more quality straight away. I can rule out that we will sign Julian Draxler in the summer.” (Source: The Mirror)

This leaves the door wide open for the Arsene Wenger to swoop in and get his man.

Draxler is an inordinately talented individual. I have little doubt that he’d spark the same upturn in belief that Mesut Ozil’s signing did for Arsenal some months back.

If his £37m release clause doesn’t scare Arsene Wenger off, the Gunners could be onto a winner here.

What’s your take? Do Arsenal have a clear run at Julian Draxler now?

The little years i have known wenger and his transfer dealings , he have never tried to sign a player twice

Draxler is not worth the price tag though he is a good player. He is worth less than 25million pounds 37 million pounds is too much for his qualities. For the amount can get better players such as Isco, Gundogan, etc

This is a stupid un insightful article and sums up what is wrong with Arsenal FC. Currently Arsenal have Ozil Cazorla Ramsey Wilshere Arteta Flamini Gnabry Walcott as well as Joel Campbell back next season. What Arsenal don’t need is yet another attack minded midfielder,: instead Wenger should focus on a young strong athletic specialist defensive midfielder. If Wenger buys that type of specialist defensive midfielder to help Flamini and Arteta out next season, Arsenal would be a much better balanced team/squad. Wenger needs another top quality centre forward and maybe another strong powerful centre back. So to sum up Wenger needs a quick centre forward a strong athletic defenive midfielder and a fast athletic strong central defender. 3 players that migh
