IscoAs we all know, Arsenal have a problem in big matches. They don’t have the confidence to take on big teams and are thus unlikely to do particularly well in the silverware stakes. As far as I can tell, there are only two ways to fix this problem: 1) nurture world-class, big game players or 2) buy ready-made, big game players.

There’s plenty of talented young footballers forcing their way up the ranks at the Emirates, but I’m sure most fans will hope that Arsene Wenger picks option number two. Let’s call it the express option, as it could speed the Gunners along the path to success.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are considering making a surprise bid for Real Madrid’s £30m rated midfielder, Isco. If there’s any truth to these claims, it’s very exciting news indeed.

The Metro suggest that Isco isn’t entirely happy with Carlo Ancelotti’s training methods and that he hasn’t progressed as much as he would have liked during his short stay with Real Madrid.

I have to say, I find those claims a little fishy. At just 21-years-old, Isco has made 31 appearances this season for Madrid and is a major part of their first team. He’s also been effective, chipping in with 8 goals and 6 assists. What more could he want?

When papers claim of ‘training ground bust ups’, or the like, I always get a little suspicious. It seems like an easy way to create plausibility without providing an evidence. It’s a little too easy.

But Arsenal do have previous when it comes to signing big money Real Madrid midfielders. They did spend £42.4m on Mesut Ozil last summer after all. This makes me wonder: will Ancelotti really be willing to let Isco go for just £30m? Doesn’t he have just as much potential as Ozil?

Either way, Isco would be a fantastic signing for the Gunners. He’s one of the best young footballers in the world. There’s just no telling how good he’s going to get over the coming years.

Of course, Arsenal’s main priority should be signing a striker. But if Arsene Wenger wastes some time pursuing Isco in the summer, I’m sure that very few fans would complain.

What’s your take? Can Arsenal afford to join the race for Isco?
