Robin van PersieIt’s funny how quickly things change in the footballing world. One moment everything’s going your way, the next everything’s going wrong.

Robin Van Persie will be well aware of this phenomena. I’m sure that last season was the highlight of his career.

He left the Gunners in a £24m move to Manchester United, with the purported aim of earning silverware. Well, he lucked out. In his first season at Old Trafford he fired his team to the Premier League title.

As it happened, however, that was to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge. David Moyes took the mantle during the summer and has since made it his mission to drive this once great club into the ground.

He started by signing Marouane Fellaini (a player that the club really didn’t need) and then set his new team up in a backwards way, resulting in a series of disappointing results.

Indeed, Manchester United have just picked up their 8th defeat of the season against a workman like Stoke City side. Robin Van Persie must be looking on in despair. How did things turn so quickly?

Arsenal fans on the other hand, must be barely able to contain their mirth. RVP left the club in disarray, choosing to further his own goals, regardless of the cost. But now it’s Arsenal who are challenging for silverware as Manchester United are struggling to adapt to their new mid-table status.

This has led to numerous sources, including the Daily Mail, claiming that Robin Van Persie wants out of Old Trafford. They even go as far as to say that the Dutchman wants to return to his old club and that a £15m move back to the Emirates could be on the card.

If that last paragraph didn’t make you do a double-take, I’m not sure what will. This is one of the strangest transfer stories in recent memory.

Whether it’s true or not, it does beg the question: would Arsenal fans be happy if Robin Van Persie were to make a shock return to the club?

My personal answer would be, ‘no’. The Gunners need to start looking to the future. Van Persie is now 30-years-old and is approaching the autumn of his career. I’d rather that Arsenal went on the hunt for a player who could go on to be as special as Robin Van Persie, rather than this current iteration of the Dutchman.

Besides, I’d say that Robin has just about worn out the good will that all his Arsenal goals bought him. Let’s hope that Arsene Wenger stays clear.

What’s your take? Would you take Robin Van Persie back at Arsenal if he cost just £15m?

AW might have him back…he said before the away match to ManUre that he would always view RvP as an Arsenal boy. I think the fans would give him a tough time, but if he made the right apologetic noises and scored enough goals, most would forgive him. The North Bank were singing Bendtner’s name when he got the winner against Cardiff, although admittedly he had been a dick rather than a turncoat.

    Nah.

  • Domii says:

He would need to talk to AW and clear up all grudges that he (RVP) or AW have against each other. Then he would need to make a public statement apologizing to all the fans of Arsenal. Then maybe. But then MU fans would hate him, so it sounds improbable.

Hell no! Same with d Ashley Cole’s rumour. Wudnt even get dem 4 free, if we’re short of options in their respective departments… We are no dump site for traitors, dishonest persons (with almost worn-out legs). Hope Arsene stays clear off diz stories.

    Let us take him back

  • FuckRVP says:

Fuck that. Need to move forward not backwards. RVP can now start to suck Moyes balls, fuck him and united scum!!!

  • Goonsquad says:

No, he’s on a massive salary, he’s been a total cock to Arsene, the club and the fans and I think we’ve paid him to sit on the treatment table long enough already without doing it all over again. Frankly he’s made his mid table bed, now let him lie in it. If he had even an ounce of class he wouldn’t have celebrated when he scored against us but he did so f#ck him.

  • J.J. says:

God forbid! As a FAN of RVP I felt bad when he refused to renew his contract with us. Like we always do, comments were sent out regarding the situation then. He left for the singular reason according to him ‘ LACK OF AMBITION’. He won silverware with Man U,so let enjoy stay. That’s the fate in football. Rubbish!
