Are Manchester United all set for a trademark comeback?

|

GsQdm5-360Manchester United have just returned back to Manchester from their warm weather training camp in Dubai. The Red Devils of Manchester are in action this weekend once again attempting to fight their way up the Premier League table. According to the current points tally Manchester United trail Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton in their quest for the coveted champions league spot.

It is only a matter of time before Manchester United overtake Everton and Tottenham and start threatening Liverpool intently for the fourth spot in the table.

Both Everton and Tottenham have scored fewer goals than the reigning champions and conceded more or marginally fewer goals. Tottenham are riding on the sparkling form of Emmanuel Adebayor whereas Everton are grinding out results to stay in the top half of the table.

It is interesting to note that Manchester United have not played the football they are capable of and their star players Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick have all returned recently from injuries. Furthermore the likes of Phil Jones and Maraoune Fellaini have resumed training and the latter even made it to the bench against Arsenal. Finally, David Moyes will have his full squad at this disposal, something which has been a rarity this season for him.

Once all the aforementioned factors are considered it really seems rational to suggest that Manchester United will edge out Tottenham and Everton. This is because they have kept themselves in the hunt without their best players and the best football they are capable of. Their squad has been stretched to the maximum and the injuries have taken their toll already. The club, the manager and the players have been crucified (read criticized) intensely by the media. The pressure of defending the title is no longer there. All that is required is a string of wins and the belief will be back.

A small blip in the forms of either of the clubs would surely propel the champions to one final onslaught for the fourth spot on the points table. Liverpool deserves the fourth place for the football they have played this season. But it does look like the weight of the team is being pulled by Suarez and Sturridge exclusively. Liverpool has been lucky to avoid major injuries but their squad is not as deep as Manchester United’s and injuries could derail their campaign within a fortnight. Imagine if their star two star strikers get sidelined with injuries like Manchester United’s Rooney and Van Persie. Would they be able to sustain their fascinating form? Highly unlikely.

Sir Alex Ferguson recently said in one his interviews that it would be wrong to write off Manchester United. That is exactly what has happened this season. The fans of Manchester United have missed the joy of being in the top spot of the table and exciting late comeback victories in this season. Given the current circumstances it seems their club is definitely well set up for one more famous comeback. But this time it would not be in a game, but an entire season.

Everton, Liverpool and Spurs have all had extensive injuries and still have some major injuries. And are all still outperforming United. United have had injuries but theyve had Rooney the majority of the season a player thats just got a new contract worth £300k a week! and hes done naught! Moyes is too defensive every game he sets up not to lose.

“Talk” of reeling in these teams is frankly insulting especially considering how well Everton and Liverpool have played this season and Spurs more recently. Its more likely they’ll reel in Arsenal, Chelsea and City. United will be struggling to finish above Saints. especially after losing to Palace tonight.

LMAO Man U will finish 6th at most, no way will they make champions league then watch next year when they do a Liverpool and nobody of note want to join them …. When red-nose when so did their history.

So then Ahmed. Wear red tinted glasses much you clown?

“It is only a matter of time before Manchester United overtake Everton and Tottenham and start threatening Liverpool intently for the fourth spot in the table.” Rubbish. There is nothing to suggest this will happen. Man Utd have comparatively a poor midfield and their defence aren’t good enough. On top of that they have been awful all season.

They are 11 points behind Liverpool. On what planet have they managed to keep themselves “in the hunt”?

“Given the current circumstances it seems their club is definitely well set up for one more famous comeback.” Well, after a football genius like yourself says this I’ve just gone and re-mortgaged my house and lumped on. Clearly this is a dead cert.

Delusional, even with Moyes best team out on the field he lacks the tactical awareness to play attractive, exciting and more importantly winning football consistently.

Everton have spent a fraction of Uniteds’ budget, Tottenham are a team with a host of new signings that have underperformed/been poorly utilised (read: Lamela) and to say Liverpool have not had an injury crisis is absurd. Allen, Agger, Enrique, Johnson, Sturridge, Lucas have all been out at the same time, only now are we getting them back to full fitness. Sterling only really picked up in November and anyone disregarding Henderson’s upturn in form and ability is blind.

I don’t see how it is ‘rational’ that United will do anything approaching a ‘comeback’ this season is a write off, United will rebuild significantly in summer and then we will see.

suarez/sturridge have only made 4 more appearances in the league compared to rooney/RVP. only 1 goal conceded difference in favour of utd but not really greater superiority. goals scored by players other than the 2 strike partnerships are 27 for LFC and 22 for MUFC. Lazy journalism I’m afraid!

How can you say Liverpool have been lucky with injuries ? Agger, Sakho, Enrique, Johnson, Allen, Lucas, Sturridge and Gerrard have all missed weeks of football due to injuries. Rodgers deserved great credit for rotating his squad through those tough spells. Dead right Liverpool deserve 4th or better

HahahA brilliant deluded Man U fans. Only a matter of time before they overtake spurs. Man I took 1 point from spurs all season. Hardly a better team nowadays. Anyways i personally don’t think the Europa is achievable for Man U now. X

What a stupid article. An MU comeback has no relevance whatsoever. MU could win ever game left in the premier league but it would count for nothing if all 7 teams above them fail to gift MU with the opportunity of CL qualification and that won’t happen.

  • MaxidusForMen says:

What nonsense is this? Liverpool were without the services of Suarez for 4 league games and they still beat man U. Sturridge was also injured for almost two months. oh did I forget to mention Gerard, Johnson, Enrique, Agger, Courthino, Sakho who were all out to injuries, some yet still not back? I think Liverpool have coped splendidly without those players. They make no excuses. I think you are better off using the transition of a new manager as reason for Man U’s bad form and not injuries after all Man U still have Welbeck and Hernandez and better depth in squad than Liverpool.

Oh! Only if Fergie could return and bring back the FEAR FACTOR OT was reknown for. Though not to the opposing players but the home side twelfth player {the DUBIOUS refs a la webb et al} who award DUBIOUS penalties, fail to make major or game changing decisions against MU, award DUBIOUS red cards to the opponents{anybody remembers Torres & Ivanovic or Jonjo Shelvey} and the LEGENDARY FERGIE TIME which gave his team the licence to either equalise or win a game. Till all these preconditions are met, your hope will remain what it is truly is, WISHFUL THINKING et PIPE DREAM. DELUDED DAY DREAMER!
