Domenico BerardiWhilst Andre Villas-Boas did make some mistakes in the transfer market during his time with Tottenham, he did have an exciting tendency to plump for young players with big futures. Given the club’s struggle to earn a foothold among the Premier League elite, this must surely have been the right direction for the club to go in.

Sure players like Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue have failed to provide the goods, but they have shown promise. There’s a good chance that they’ll improve over the coming months and start putting in performances worthy of their price-tags.

Of course, it hasn’t been easy for Tottenham fans watching these players attempt to find their feet. Gareth Bale’s exit created a vacuum that the club’s top brass attempted to fill by shoveling in as many players as possible. Getting the new-comers to gel together immediately would have been a massive ask.

But there’s plenty of hope for the future. Despite struggling early on in the season, Spurs are still hovering around the top four and with Emmanuel Adebayor providing some meaningful firepower, there’s plenty of reason to expect the club to improve as time ticks by.

Still, Spurs fans will be desperate to see Tim Sherwood make a purchase or two during the January transfer window. Sure, they spent big during the summer and already have a big squad, but bringing in talented individuals can often spark belief among players and fans alike.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Spurs are currently working on a deal for 19-year-old striker, Domenico Berardi, who currently plays for Serie A side US Sassulo, despite being owned by Juventus.

Berardi has been in fantastic form this season, scoring 11 goals and notching 5 assists in 15 matches. That’s a fantastic return for a young player. Anybody who saw his four-goal salvo against AC Milan will testify: this boy is a special talent.

With Spurs pressing need for another striker to provide the goals that Soldado isn’t, buying young would be a smart move. This would demonstrate both that AVB’s philosophy hasn’t been struck from the club entirely and that Tim Sherwood is also capable of scoping out European football’s brightest young talent.

Whether he’ll be enough to force Spurs into the Champions League slots remains to be seen, but Tottenham will be a lot better placed with him than without him.

What’s your take? Should Tim Sherwood make a move for this talented Italian starlet?

Nice idea, but I don’t know why he’d be attracted to coming to Spurs.

I totally agree that Berardi would be a fantastic acquisition for us,alas I fear that this will not materialize however much I would like it to happen

  • POPSY says:

Sounds too good to miss out on, depending on his price, but, I would still risk £1.5m and bring Berbatov back as well. COYS !!!

All I can say is that is sherwood going to do what AVB did last year and Harry did the year before and go into the last couple of months with only 2 strikers ad score no goals

If Spurs don’t at least sign a striker this window, when Defoe leaves, if we get an injury and it costs us goals that we have come hard to get anyway it will be down to the board again. On top of the mediocre signings that were made in the summer, paying an awful lot of money for players that can’t even make the first eleven, Mr Levy and Mr Baldini better have some good answers to the questions coming there way at the end of the season. I think it’s time Joe Lewis started looking at the situation in hand, after all it is his money they are wasting.

ur on the button there. they spend all that money and we need to ship half of them out.

  • Graeme says:

What waste. AVB made none of the signings so would SHerwood make any now especially as he is only the interim caretaker.?

We have got rid of players in January – Defoe, Obika, Coulthirst, Dawkins, – all strikers from great to underwhelming, and replaced them with absolutely nothing.

Even Dawkins is better than nothing! And that says a lot.

We need someone, far better than who he is replacing, not like for like. Someone better than Adebayor, better than Soldado, better thean Defoe.

What we need is a proven goal scorer -regrettably no-one is available.

I think Pato would be a great choice.

He can score in the big leagues, and he has spent the last year getting healthy. Because of his past injuries, Pato won’t come at a killer premium. So, if he gets us 6 points before injury, he will be worth it.

This is off season for his league, and while Pato hates his current team/coach, he is not known as being a problem player.

Finally, Pato’s the perfect age for our line-up – a couple years older than the promising home grown players – while being 5+ years younger than Ade/Soldado.
