Alvaro MorataWith all the talk concerning Julian Draxler, it’s easy to forget that Arsenal most need to sign another strike-partner for Olivier Giroud.

After all, we’ve spent the best part of this season holding our breath whenever the Frenchman goes down under the slightest pain. It’s all too clear what the consequences of an injury to Olivier Giroud could be. As things currently stand, keeping Giroud fit could be the difference between a title-winning season and another season treading water.

With Theo Walcott and Yaya Sanogo out injured, options are limited. Arsene Wenger certainly wont want to turn to Nicklas Bendtner unless he has to.

Draxler is an attacking midfielder and thus really shouldn’t be a priority. I think the Gunners can rely on Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and co. to provide the goods for the rest of the season.

Still, it hasn’t been completely quiet on the striker-chasing front this January. Arsenal have been strongly linked to Real Madrid starlet Alvaro Morata. The Mirror suggests that the Gunners are weighing up a loan move for the 21-year-old, but have also considered spending £5.8m and buying him outright.

This deliberation is all well and good, but it’s beginning to look like Arsenal need to reach a decision. The same source has claimed that both Inter Milan and Fiorentina have entered the race for the youngster’s signature and could force the Gunners out of the running.

Arsenal have a clear and pressing need. They need to bring in some support for Olivier Giroud. Morata fits the billing: he’s pacy, he’s technically gifted and he’s a force in front of goal. He’d certainly provide a welcome counter-balance to the Frenchman, who does tend to lumber around the pitch at times.

As such, it’s difficult to see why the Gunners are dragging their feet. Didn’t Arsene do the same thing during the summer with Gonzalo Higuain (who has since scored 13 times in 22 appearances)? The Gunners could be left kicking themselves here.

Alvaro Morata wouldn’t break the bank, but he would provide a welcome option. With no reason to stay clear, I can’t help but hope that Wenger beats the competition to this talented Spaniard.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be in the market for Alvaro Morata, or are there other more compelling options out there?

It’s not a matter of dragging their feet. Should they go to Madrid and put a gun to the head of ancelotti to force him to loan morata to us? Transfers is not a one way process. It involves three parties being in agreement. U should know that
