Cristian TelloI was excited to see Victor Moses make a temporary move to Anfield last summer. Liverpool had just sent Stewart Downing packing and the Chelsea winger seemed like a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, that hasn’t quite been the case.

In 15 appearances for the Reds, he’s scored just 1 goal. That’s a poor return, but he’s also failed to contribute on other fronts. Whilst he’s got pace to burn, he doesn’t always use it to good effect, isn’t a good crosser of the ball and can sometimes be sloppy in possession. It’s clear that Brendan Rodgers doesn’t trust him, not fully any way.

It’s lucky that Liverpool only agreed upon a loan-deal. At the end of the season he’ll return to Stamford Bridge and leave the Reds with a void to fill.

As such, there’s still some work to be done in this department. I can’t help but wonder if Rodgers is already weighing up his options and drawing up a list of wingers who he’d like to bring to Anfield.

Liverpool have been linked to Barcelona wing-wizard, Cristian Tello, for quite some time. The 22-year-old has bags of talent but often struggles for game-time at the Nou Camp, thanks to the presence of his inordinately gifted team-mates.

If he wants to take his career to the next level, he may well require a change of scenery. With Liverpool’s current need, it strikes me that the two could make for a rather nice fit. Unfortunately, the player has made it clear that he wont be moving any time soon:

“Definitively I am staying until June at Barcelona, then in the summer we will see. I am happy here. I’m not playing as much as I did last year, but I’m not giving up. The most important thing is to play, get time on the pitch and work hard. You always have to give the best of yourself and take advantage of your opportunities.” (Source: The Mirror)

Whilst he’s staying positive, he’s certainly not laying down his long-term future. If the Reds are still interested, they could yet get their man, if they’re willing to play the long-game.

If Brendan Rodgers can hold out until the summer, he might be about to pick up Tello for a fair price (it would be wrong of Barca to hold him to ransom, when he’s not really a regular first teamer) and get a player who’s just on the verge of being world-class. That sounds like a smart move to me.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool wait until the summer to sign Cristian Tello, or sign somebody immediately?
