Paul Georges NtepAll the talk concerning Arsenal’s hunt for a new striker has left me somewhat cold. I thought that the arrival of Mesut Ozil at the Emirates could herald a new age of financial freedom for the Gunners, where big-spending was the order of the day. If you believe the papers, however, Arsene Wenger is looking to go back to basics and snap up a bargain.

That’s why the Gunners have been linked to players like Dimitar Berbatov, Eduardo da Silva (who’s an ex-Arsenal star) and Real Madrid youngster, Alvaro Morata. All these footballers have their merits, but none of them would represent an Ozil-level signing.

But maybe that’s okay. Maybe it’s time to start tempering the levels of expectation regarding Arsenal in the transfer market. Arsene Wenger has always been a bargain hunter and he’s unlikely to change soon. The man is a creature of habit.

It’s also worth noting that it’s January and that bargains will be hard to come by. Perhaps instead of expecting a world-class striker to walk through the door, Arsenal fans should cross their fingers that they get a good player at a good price.

This brings me to Paul Georges Ntep, a French striker who has been linked to Arsenal for some time now. According to The Mirror, the Gunners are still interested in the 21-year-old and could make a move before the January transfer window slams shut.

He currently plays for Ligue 2 club Auxerre and I’m sure he’d jump at the opportunity to move to a big club like Arsenal. He may be young, but he’s got so much potential and he could be exactly what Arsenal need at this moment in time.

He’s best known for his incredible pace and technical ability, qualities that Arsenal strikers Nicklas Bendtner and Olivier Giroud lack. The fact that he’s scored 6 goals in 7 games for the French U21 team is very impressive indeed. If he could find this kind of scoring form in the Premier League, Arsenal would be on to a real winner.

His £6.6m price-tag means he’s certainly affordable. If Arsene Wenger is looking for a bargain this January, Paul Georges Ntep may be the best option. If Arsene Wenger opts against splashing the cash, then here’s hoping that he scours the depths of French football once more.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners snap up yet another French prodigy?

rather than buying a striker…y not bring a striker on loan…benfica’s rodrigo isn’t getting enough playing time….

if arsenal are buying…consider..monaco’s reviere…he has scored 8 goals in 11 games…n he’s versatile to play anywhere in attack….
