Should Liverpool look to wrap up this late January deal?

Arda TuranIf Liverpool have been quiet this January, it’s not through any fault of Brendan Rodger’s. The Reds boss is known for his ability to work the transfer market and was clearly interested in signing FC Basel’s Eyptian ace, Mohamed Salah, before Chelsea came in and snatched him away.

After the event, Rodgers told the Press: “Of course, I wanted to strengthen the team and if we are unable to do that it would be disappointing, but there’s nothing you can do about it. We know what the value of the player is and how far we were prepared to go. We won’t over-pay.” (Source: The Mirror)

But will missing out on Salah spell the end of Liverpool’s activity this January? I certainly hope not.

The same Mirror article suggests that the Reds are preparing a late move for Atletico Madrid’s talented Turk, Arda Turan. They also claim that they may have to fight off competition from Manchester City to get this deal signed off. It’s never easy, is it?

Still, it’s good to see that Brendan Rodgers is on the hunt for another deal. This is particularly true given that Arda Turan is an exciting player in his own right.

He’s now made 114 appearances for Atletico Madrid, a team that has been tearing up La Liga this season and has chipped in with 17 goals and 24 assists.

He’s a fleet-footed winger (much like Mohamed Salah), who isn’t afraid to take players on, cut in and take a shot at goal. He’s got pace, he’s got technical ability and he’s got guts. I think he could be a real asset for Liverpool. As such, he’s unlikely to come cheap.

Still, Brendan Rodgers does carry some cards up his sleeves. Whilst he considers himself a Galatasaray fan, he’s also spoken about his love of Liverpool in the past. Check out these quotes from 2010:

“As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition. In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter, so if I go to play in Europe, I would like to play for them.” (Source: Goal.com)

Could he finally be about to get his wish? I’ll certainly be keeping my fingers crossed. Either way, the clock’s ticking and Brendan Rodgers needs to come to a quick decision.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool make one last grab for this Atletico Madrid star?
