Emmanuel Agyemang BaduWhether Liverpool can push to the top of the Premier League table this season remains to be seen. But with Luis Suarez in tow, who knows what they’re capable of?

My gut says that this wont be the Reds’ year. Manchester City are simply too dominant and Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea are capable of seeing the course. Then there’s Arsenal, who look resurgent this season. There’s just too much competition.

But that’s not to say that the club shouldn’t be building towards the future. Brendan Rodgers has already proven himself a smart dealer in the transfer market and I’d love to see him continue to take risks this January (and during the summer).

If he’s to start any where, he should start by looking at Liverpool’s midfield. Whilst Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez often manage to make their midfielders look good, there’s no doubting that this is where the club is weakest. Steven Gerrard’s striding gamely into the autumn of his career, whilst Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho are still developing.

The Reds could certainly use a boost in this department. This brings me to the following news: according to The Mirror, Liverpool are ‘in pole position to snap up’ Udinese midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu. ITV also picked up on the story, running the following quotes from the player himself:

“I have not heard anything from my agent – at the moment it is all speculation. We will have to see what happens in the next two weeks because it has always been my dream to play in England.

We played against Liverpool in the Europa League last year so I know all about them. They are a really good team who have been performing well this season and I would be very happy to join them. I’m settled in Italy but the chance to play for such a big club is something I couldn’t pass up.”

He’s extremely highly regarded and at 23-years-old, he’s already made 41 appearances for Ghana. He’s hardworking, tough, ready to fight the physical battle and he’s strong in the air. He’s your typical defensive midfielder, but he’s also capable of supporting the attack and making stuff happen in the final third. In that sense, he’d be an excellent addition to this Liverpool side.

There’s no word as to how much he might cost, but if Rodgers is looking to improve his midfield options, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu could be a good choice.

What’s your take? Should Brendan Rodgers sign this Ghanaian international?
